The Hornpipe is any of several dance forms that were popular in the British isles. The dances first appeared in the late 17th century, and are still danced to this day.

A prodigious musical talent, James Hook was an English organist and harpsichord player in the 1700s. He wrote extensively for the stage, and his operas were featured at the Drury Lane and Covent Garden theatres.
