The time signature is 3/4 and the tempo is moderato. The music has very distinctive rhythmic accents. Moritz Moszkowski (1854 – 1925) was born in Breslau, Prussia into a family of a Polish-Jewish. His family was a wealthy one and he enjoyed a musical education from a young age. The family moved to Dresden in 1865 where he undertook piano lessons at the local conservatory. He later moved to Berlin to continue his studies at Julius Stern's Conservatory, and later at Theodor Kullak's Neue Akademie der Tonkunst (New Academy of Music). At the latter he was friendly with the Scharwenka brothers, Xaver and Philipp. In 1871 Moszkowski accepted an offer to teach at Kullak's Academy, he also played first violin in the orchestra.
