![]() | A triumph. A contrapuntal masterpiece. M. Schoonenbeek has expertly utilized the sonata form, and showcased the organ as a fierce weapon for the Modern Classical materiel. He has managed to take the heaviness of the organ, and has woven it into a delicately crafted masterwork. The dark tonality of this largely harmonic piece, strangely, is not ponderous. This sonata almost has the feel of a symphonic reduction. Prominent, but not obtrusive, this well-balanced piece is a delight to listen to, on more than one audition. Congratulations to M. Schoonenbeek for this great accomplishment. |
