Juan Vásquez (or Vázquez, c. 1500, Badajoz - c. 1560, Seville) was a Spanish priest and composer of the renaissance. He can be considered part of the School of Andalusia group of composers along with Francisco Guerrero, Cristóbal de Morales, Juan Navarro Hispalensis and others.

The villancico (or vilancete, in Portuguese) was a common poetic and musical form of the Iberian Peninsula and Latin America popular from the late 15th to 18th centuries. With the decline in popularity of the villancicos in the 20th century, the term became reduced to mean merely "Christmas carol". Important composers of villancicos were Juan del Encina, Pedro de Escobar, Francisco Guerrero, Gaspar Fernandes, and Juan Gutiérrez de Padilla.

The english text of "De los Álamos Vengo, Madre" reads as follows: "I come from the aspen trees, Mother, I saw how they shake in the breeze. From the aspen trees of Seville, where I saw my beautiful beloved. I come from the aspen trees, Mother, I saw how they shake in the breeze".

Although originally written for Chorus (SATB), I created this arrangement for string Quartet (2 Violins, Viola & Cello).
