Ana Leira Carnero is an Argentine-Spanish composer. Her music lessons started at age 7. As a teenager, she was a student of the renowned piano teacher Ana Litowsky-Grunwald, becoming a highly skilled pianist. At age 15, she was admitted to advanced courses at the Carlos López Buchardo National Conservatory in Buenos Aires, where she graduated as a National Professor of Music. Said courses included piano, harmony, contemporary style, choral conducting, and history of music, among other topics. At the same Institution, once graduated, she was selected by the multi-award-winning pianist Aldo Antognazzi for an Improvement Training given by him. Through separate studies, she learned composition, complex harmony, counterpoint, and orchestration.
Today, she is an eclectic composer who uses multiple styles to express herself, from neo-baroque to avant-garde, from jazz, blues, and rock to folk music. Her catalog includes chamber and orchestral pieces, songs, and piano compositions. Her works have been performed in Argentina, Australia, Austria, Brazil, Chile, France, the Netherlands, Spain, and the United States. From 2018 to 2023, she was a member of the centennial Argentine Association of Composers, after being evaluated for admission by distinguished colleagues.
She won joint-First Prize in the 2023 Call for Scores for the LunART Festival (Madison, WI, US), among more than 150 entries, and awarded by 17 judges. Additionally, she received a Mention in the 2022 International Piano Competition (Composition Category), granted by the World Piano Teachers Association Argentina.
