Brother of John HopÂkins, EdÂward beÂgan his muÂsicÂal caÂreer by singÂing in the choir at the ChaÂpel RoyÂal. He latÂer played the orÂgan at MitchÂam, SurÂrey; St. Peter?s, IsÂlingÂton; and St. Luke?s, BerÂwick Street. In 1843, he beÂcame orÂganÂist at TemÂple Church in LonÂdon, where he played over half a cenÂtuÂry. In 1882, the ArchÂbiÂshop of CanÂterÂbuÂry awardÂed him an honÂoÂrary DocÂtor of MuÂsic.
