Philip Le Bas was born in Cambridge, UK, and grew up in Leicester. He studied a variety of disciplines at Cambridge University, Oxford University, the Pontifical Gregorian University (Rome), St Mary's University College (Twickenham), and holds degrees in Natural Sciences, Nuclear Physics, and Theology/Philosophy. The instruments he plays include the bassoon, the flute, and the piano. He is currently principal bassoonist with the Maidstone Symphony Orchestra and the Royal Tunbridge Wells Symphony Orchestra, and he is the choir director for the church of Sts Peter and Paul, Seal, near Sevenoaks. In addition to a little teaching of the bassoon, Philip is employed as Head of Physics at Walthamstow Hall, an independent girls secondary school in Sevenoaks. He is married to Rev. Anne Le Bas, who is the vicar of Sts Peter and Paul, Seal. Philip's compositions go back over many years, but in recent years he has found a new enthusiasm and inspiration both in new compositions and also in arrangements, especially simple ones for church choirs.
