Born in Buenos Aires in 1969, Rodrigo was educated in music under the guidance of Roberto Lara (guitar), Haydée Schvarz (piano), and Ani Grunwald (Audioperceptive Education). He also studied in the Conservatorio Municipal Manuel De Falla and the Antiguo Conservatorio Beethoven.
While performing since 1985 as a composer and pianist, Rodrigo created the groups Los Rodrigo Ratier Trio, Vallegrande, Atuel and La Puerta del Vino which performed in various scenes in Buenos Aires and throughout Argentina, in places such as Teatro Municipal General San Martín, Teatro Municipal Presidente Alvear, Teatro Luz y Fuerza, SADAIC (Argentinian Society of Authors and Composers), SADEM (Argentinian Association of Musicians), Radio Municipal de Buenos Aires, Escenario Atahualpa Yupanuqui (Cosquín, Córdoba) Complejo Cultural La Plaza and Anfiteatro ATE.
In 1997 he settled in Chile subsequently forming the Latin American fusion trio Sur, and in 2006 the Nuevo Tango ensemble Rodrigo Ratier Quintet which he has continued fronting until present. His participation in the music medium of Chile includes performances as a session musician and arranger with local recognized jazz figures.
He has performed in Club de Jazz de Santiago, Thelonious, El Mesón Nerudiano, La Barcaza, Sala Master (Radio Universidad de Chile), Sala SCD Bellavista, Centro Cultural Estación Mapocho, Casa de la Cultura Anahuac del Parque Metropolitano de Santiago, Teatro Municipal de Ñuñoa, Instituto Chileno-Norteamericano de Cultura, La Piedra Feliz de Valparaíso, Café Literario de la Ilustre Municipalidad de Providencia, Casa de la Cultura de Algarrobo and Teatro Municipal de Los Angeles (VIII Región, Chile).
Among his activities he has appeared regularly in jazz festivales, such as Festival de Festival de Jazz de El Bosque 2005, Festival de Jazz de San Miguel 2005, Festival de Jazz de Pirque 2006, Festival de Jazz de Lebu 2006, Festival de Jazz "La Chimenea" 2007 and Festival de Jazz de San Bernardo 2009. He has also performed on numerous occasions in Mendoza, Argentina, such as in the Jazz Festival "Fotojazzeando" 2005, the ?Auditorio de LV4? (Radio San Rafael), the ?Fiesta de los Pueblos y el Vino?, the ?Festival de Jazz Malargüe 2006?, and in "Jazz Club Gato Barbieri" and "Tango Bar".
In 2009 he performed at the Festival Internacional de Jazz de La Plata (Buenos Aires, Argentina) as an integrated soloist in the afroperuvian fusion group of Cecilia Alessandra, a recognized Peruvian singer. He also appeared in SADEM (Sindicato Argentino de Músicos) and in "La Peña del Colorado". He and the quintet were invited by the Instituto Cubano de la Música to attend the ?"Festival Internacional Jazz Plaza 2010" in La Habana. In 2010 he was called for the Cycle of Jazz of the Goethe-Institut of Santiago, under the direction of English pianist and composer Martin Joseph. In January 2011 he participated in the Quinto Encuentro Internacional de Músicos Jazz a la Calle, (Mercedes, Uruguay), and in February of the same year in the Festival de Jazz de Lebu 2011 (VIII Región, Chile). Presently he holds a teaching position in courses of Musical Creation in Universidad de las Américas in Santiago, Chile.
His discography includes Terra Australis with the group La Puerta de Vino (Buenos Aires, 1997, Atuel Música), Sur, fusión jazzística latinoamericana, with the group Sur (Santiago, Chile, 2006, Atuel Música), and Neurotango (Santiago, Chile, 2008, Atuel Música) and Resonancia (Santiago, Chile, 2014, Animales en la Vía) with the group Rodrigo Ratier Quintet.
