Noir detective Mort Mandril has been duped by femme fatale Anna into obtaining a mysterious suitcase, which had an equally mysterious connection to Bitcoins. Full details in preceding episodes: https://www.free-scores.com/sheetmusic?p=a8l64mhtrt ] “I am part of the Zambonian Secret Service,” explained Anna. “What nobody knows is that Bitcoin is a clever Zambonian plot to warm the globe. New Bitcoins are created by expending an enormous amount of computer processing energy. There are millions of computers worldwide crunching away and generating heat while creating new Bitcoins. “So how does this help Zambonia?” “Zambonia is so far north that it is basically a giant ice rink. It stands to benefit greatly from global warming.” It turned out that the Zambonians had also managed to convince the public to exchange the Bitcoins for something that actually had value, hard cash for instance, thus filling the Zambonian coffers with a grand untraceable fortune. Warm the globe to thaw out a frozen wasteland and pile up a major fortune in the process. “I am impressed Anna, but this does not seem legal at all.” Anna continued: “Since Bitcoin essentially only exists because people believe in it, it couldn’t be stolen. I was sent here to destroy Bitcoin. The globe is now warm enough to thaw out Zambonia.” “If I enter a key number into something called the Bitcoin blockchain, all the Bitcoins simply disappear—vanish without a trace. That key number is the precise weight of the suitcase in grams. I won’t know it until I weigh it.” “Why not do all this from Zambonia.” “Sorry, we need to enter it from a computer in America. We do not want Zambonia implicated. At least let’s weight the suitcase.” I popped out and bought a scale at the local hardware store. “OK, here it is, but I don’t have a computer. Plus this is sounding very fishy.” “You want to save the planet and stop global warming don’t you? This will do it.” I wasn’t sure the planet was worth saving, but it would look good on my resume. We weighted the suitcase and Anna duly recorded the magic number. “Now go make sure no on is outside.” I took a look. clear. When I return, Anna was furiously pecking away at her cellphone.” “More trickery Anna? What are you doing?” Anna said, “We’re there. When I tap this app, all the Bitcoins disappear, the planet is saved, and, more importantly, Zambonia is thawed out.” Suddenly the door flew open. “Hands up. No one move.” It was Detective Stark, Sargent O’Malley, and an assortment of other cops. “The Zambonian thugs confessed. We are taking you in.” “OK,” said Anna, “But please, can I please make one phone call to my mother? She is very worried.” “Make it quick,” snapped Stark. And… Anna tapped the app. The end. Epilog: They couldn’t hold Anna. She had only destroyed a belief, and there is no law against that. People that had held Bitcoins were none too happy to the tune of several trillion dollars, but other folks concerned with global warming were overjoyed. I wasn’t sure I needed the attention, so when Anna suggest I return with her to Zambonia, I agreed. What the heck, maybe they need private eyes there, plus Anna is really a very [deleted by the PC police]. Oh, and the dead body?
