Antonio Lotti (1667 - 1740) Italie Antonio Lotti fut un compositeur italien, né vers 1665 à Venise ou à Hanovre, mort le 5 janvier 1740 à Venise.
La première partie de sa vie se passa à Hanovre, ou son père Matteo était maître de chapelle de la Cour Électorale.
Il reçut également une éducation musicale à Venise auprès de Giovanni Legrenzi ; il y exerça ensuite des fonctions à la basilique Saint-Marc, tout d'abord comme chanteur, puis comme assistant du second organiste avant de devenir le titulaire, enfin à partir de 1704 comme premier organiste. Il devint par la suite (1736) Maître de Chapelle, position qu'il occupa jusqu'à sa mort. Il fut aussi employé pour composer et enseigner à l'Ospedale degli Incurabili de cette même ville.
Il obtint un congé en 1717 pour se rendre à Dresde auprès de l'Électeur de Saxe, ou plusieurs de ses opéras furent représentés.
Il retourna à Venise en 1719 et y demeura ensuite jusqu'à sa mort.
Ce fut un professeur recherché qui eut parmi ses élèves Domenico Alberti, Benedetto Marcello, Baldassare Galuppi et Jan Dismas Zelenka. Il était marié à une chanteuse soprano, Santa Stella.

nio Lotti’s surviving
instrumental compositions
are very few. Best known
is an oboe d’amore
concerto in A major,
until now his sole
identified work in the
concerto genre. Now
another concerto by him,
this time for ordinary
oboe, has turned up in
Lund, Sweden. The
manuscript parts are
anonymous, but Lotti’s
authorship is proved,
first, by the fact that
all three movements are
arrangements of arias for
soprano appearing in two
of his operas written for
Dresden and, second, by
the fact that the use of
da capo aria form for all
three movements links the
new concerto directly to
Lotti’s oboe d’amore
concerto, which may well
be a similar pasticcio.
The new G minor concerto,
more lyrical than
virtuosic in character,
is every bit as
attractive as its A-major
counterpart and deserves
to become an essential
part of the baroque
repertoire for the
oboe.
