Sir Hubert
Parry (1848-1918) is
mostly remembered for the
marvellous melodies of
his hymn tunes, such as
Jerusalem and Repton. The
latter first appeared in
Parry’s oratorio
Judith and was adapted as
a hymn tune after the
composer’s death.
This fantastic cornet
solo will give your
section leader a real
chance to shine.
Sir Hubert Parry
(1848-1918) maakt deel
uit van een min of meer
vergeten generatie van
Engelse componisten, die
- misschien
begrijpelijkerwijs - werd
overschaduwd door Sir
Edward Elgar. Als gevolg
daarvan wordt veel van
hun oeuvrehelaas weinig
gespeeld of zelfs
vergeten. Wat Parry
betreft: die is
tegenwoordig vooral nog
bekend door zijn
hymnemelodieën,
zoals Jerusalem en
Repton, beide
schitterend natuurlijk.
Dit arrangement van het
laatstgenoemdewerk (dat
eerst verscheen in
Parry’s oratorium
Judith en na zijn dood
werd bewerkt als
hymnemelodie) is
onderdeel van Philip
Sparke’s collectie

appartient cette
génération de
compositeurs anglais
quelque peu oubliés

Villiers Stanford et Sir
Granville Bantock. La
notoriété de Sir

certainement contribué
au fait que leurs
œuvres soient
aujourd’hui
très peu jouées ou
même oubliées.Sir

connu pour ses hymnes

deux de magnifiques

Repton est apparu
pour la première fois

adapté sous forme

Philip Sparke en a
réalisé un
arrangement dans lequel
