Added by magataganm, 18 Aug 2017 Johann Sebastian Bach was born in Eisenach, the capital of the duchy of Saxe-Eisenach, in present-day Germany, on 21 March 1685 O.S. (31 March 1685 N.S.). He was the son of Johann Ambrosius Bach, the director of the town musicians, and Maria Elisabeth Lämmerhirt. Sylvius Leopold Weiss (12 October 1687 – 16 October 1750) was a German composer and lutenist. He was one of the most important and most prolific composers of lute music in history and one of the best-known and most technically accomplished lutenists of his day. He was a teacher to Philip Hyacinth, 4th Prince Lobkowicz, and the prince's second wife Anna Wilhelmina Althan. In later life, Weiss became a friend of Wilhelm Friedemann Bach and met J.S. Bach through him. Bach created this arrangement of the Lute Sonata in A Major (SC 47) by S. L. Weiss from this major Suite. Sylvius Leopold Weiss whose lute-playing was the glory of the Dresden Court, was a friend of Bach's. He visited Leipzig in 1739 occasioning a contemporary to report that there was 'exceptionally fine' music-making; and it may be that at this time Bach fashioned BWV 1025 by taking one of Weiss' lute suites and arranging it, adding an enriching extra voice in the process. Although originally written for Violin & continuo , I created this Arrangement of the Suite in A Major (BWV 1025) for Oboe & Concert (Pedal) Harp.
