Added by kheidtmann, 07 Sep 2022 The text of this aria comes from the baroque hit novel "The Asian Banise" by Heinrich Anshelm von Zigler und Kliphausen, which was first published in 1689. The main characters are Princess Banise and her faithful Prince Balacin. This aria is sung by Princess Banise with the saddest and most agile voices just before her by her lover Prince Balacin thwarted sacrificial death. So it is a farewell song where the grief over the loss of life and love as well as the consolation of virtue keep the balance. The text was popular particularly in the 18th and early 19th century.
