Richard Allain's Advent Antiphon: O Dayspring for SSATBarB choir and Soprano Saxophone. Duration: approximately 3 minutes. Organists' Review: The Advent Antiphon: O Dayspring by Richard Allain is a demanding piece in which two choral groups (SABar and STB) 'may stand apart from one another' their very slow-moving chords punctuated by quasi­plainsong interjections from a soprano saxophone. It is aimed at and needs a choir of professional standard with excellent breath­control to sustain the long phrases. With the right singers and the right acoustic (not to mention a saxophonist) itis a highly atmospheric meditative work.

An unusual setting of the Magnificat And Nunc Dimittis by Tarik O'Regan written for a double chorus with Cello or Soprano Saxophone. The works were commissioned separately by Timothy Brown for the Choir of Clare College Cambridge. The Magnificat was premièred at the 2000 Spitalfields Winter Festival while the Nunc Dimittis was composed for a BBC broadcast in 2001. Will Todd’s Jazz Missa Brevis gives new life to the sung Latin Mass texts in an accessible short setting which embraces a variety of jazz styles from the swinging jazz waltz Kyrie to the up-beat Latin-groove Gloria. The smooth jazz ballad Sanctus 7/8 Benedictus and soulful Agnus Dei complete this inspiring Mass setting. Underpinned by Todd’s characteristic jazz harmonies and melodic craftsmanship it is suitable for performance both liturgically and as part of a concert by Mixed Choirs of all abilities. The work can be accompanied by Piano alone (as written or extemporised) Jazz Trio (Piano Bass and Drums)or jazz ensemble (Alto Saxophone 2 Trumpets and jazz trio – parts available separately).

Requiem for my friend written in dedication to film director Krzysztof Kieslowski (who passed away in March 1996) is in two parts. The first part - Requiem - consists of nine movements scored for soprano organ two countertenors tenor bass string quintet and percussion. It was recorded in Warsaw Cathedral and the Emaus Church in Krakow. The second part - Life - is also made of nine movements and is scored for soprano voice countertenor recorder alto saxophone piano sixty-piece orchestra and forty-piece choir.

Its title means 'a Requiem of song' or 'a Requiem of canticles' indicating that it is a commemorative piece which sets texts associated with theRequiem mass rather than being a full Requiem.
