The solo part in its instrumentation distinguishes itself from the other saxophone solos.The soloist should be able to play both the alto and soprano saxophone.The piece consists of four parts which almost blend into one another.A four-tone motif (which is played a number of times by the soloist at the beginning) has been taken as the point of departure for this composition.This motif has been worked out in different ways and can be heard in a swing rhythm in the final part.This piece exacts a high standard of the soloist’s technical skills.The ‘Rhapsody forTienhoven’ was originally written for the fanfare band ‘Soli Deo Gloria’ from Tienhoven. ‘Rhapsody for Tienhoven’ is een klein concert voor saxofoon en fanfare-orkest. Queen of Lake Malaren March. Par WIDQVIST VIKTOR. One of Viktor Widqvist's most well-known marches is undoubtedly Mälarrottningen. It was probably composed as early as the 1910s when he was serving in the engineering troops, but was published as late as 1950. The march's subtle minor tonality and the elegant runs in the woodwind bring to mind the wavy waters of Riddarfjärden in summertime. Mälardrottningen is just like the other marches by Widqvist composed for the old military band setting without saxophones. The big challenge has been to rearrange the music without changing the timbre and I have put a lot of emphasis on keeping the elegance and resilience of the original and therefore let some instruments pause in parts to get transparency in the timbre. The present arrangement reflects very well the composer's intentions and perception of timbre in new instrumentation for modern wind band. - Niclas Blixt / Date parution : 2023-07-31/ Répertoire / Marching Band

Solos by clarinet and alto saxophone announce the opening of ?Lothlórien? followed by a lilting woodwind melody and finally a brass chorale. The scene shifts abruptly in the sinister and menacing?Gollum ? which features the percussion section punctuated with angular statements from the entire band.

Elle fut en outre le lieu des débuts de la carrière musicale du guitariste écossais Gerry Rafferty qui devint mondialement célèbre un jour de 1978 avec la chanson éponyme Baker Street. Véritable phénomène planétaire Baker Street lui permit de vendre son premier album City to City à plus de 4 5 millions d?exemplaires. Cette chanson extraordinaire contient un solo de saxophone d?anthologie (sans doute le plus connu de la musique pop). L?arrangement pour orchestre d?harmonie contient un solo optionnel pour guitare électrique ou guitare basse (ou saxophone alto).Absolument génial !

Elegy: Echoes of Lives Past (Élégie : Échos de vies d?antan) est l?une des deux pièces commandées par Koninklijke Fanfare Kempenbloei Achel (dirigée par Ivan Meylemans) dans le cadre de son programme pour le Concours « World Music Contest 2022», qui s?est tenu à Kerkrade, aux Pays-Bas. L?orchestre a gagné le premier prix de la division « Fanfare Concert Division ». Cette ?uvre s?ouvre avec un choral sombre pour quintette de saxophones (pouvant être situé ailleurs que sur scène) agrémenté de solos expressifs par le bugle et le baryton. Un court interlude par les cuivres mène à un second choral plus optimiste, accompagné par des arpèges, par l?ensemble des saxophones. Ce passage est repris par les cuivres sous les figures fleuries des saxophones, pour aboutir à un dramatique climax qui est interrompu par un brusque changement d?ambiance rappelant les solos de bugle et de baryton du début. Vous avez le choix de deux conclusions possibles, selon la position du quintette de saxophones du début ? sur scène ou non.
