Added by alastair-lewis, 24 Jun 2011 "Home on the Range" is a song based on a poem by Dr. Brewster M. Higley (1823–1911) who was from Smith County, Kansas. The poem, written in the early 1870s was originally called "My Western Home". It is the state song of Kansas today. Higley's friend Daniel E. Kelley (1845–1905) wrote the music. The song spread across the United States as settlers and cowboys adopted it. This is a free sheet music for solo recorder. The recorder is a woodwind instrument and member of the family known as fipple flutes or internal duct flutes. The fipple or block is a wooden plug found at the mouth of the instrument. This plug constricts the air as the player blows into the end of the instrument. There are holes for seven fingers, with the lower one or two often doubled to facilitate the production of semi-tones. There is also a hole for the thumb of the uppermost hand. |
