Par CAPORALETTI ?VINCENZO / CUGNY LAURENT / GIVAN BENJ. La réunion des trois textes figurant aujourd'hui en français dans le présent volume vise au moins trois objectifs. Le premier est d'explorer en profondeur des enregistrements historiques à plus d'un titre. Le deuxième est d'ordre épistémologique : il consiste à éprouver un corps théorique (celui de la formativité audiotactile) en le mettant à l'épreuve de la confrontation à une matière musicale donnée. Enfin, la théorie et la méthode qui en découlent (en constante évolution) aident à dépasser un clivage qui se révèle tous les jours plus problématique dans la musicologie du jazz actuelle, celui que l'académie anglophone a en quelque sorte institutionnalisé avec la distinction entre music theory et musicology. La première se chargerait de l'analyse du matériau musical tandis que la seconde serait consacrée à l'extraction du sens (le fameux meaning dont la littérature anglophone est si friande). Or, et c'est le sens du titre qui a été donné à ce volume, l'entreprise initiée par Vincenzo Caporaletti, illustrant en cela un projet plus global de ce qu'on pourrait appeler une musicologie continentale, vise au contraire à réunir ces deux visées et à les placer en situation d'interaction. Les trois textes et les deux transcriptions illustrent donc la pluralité de cette approche. Vincenzo Caporaletti est guitariste et compositeur. Président de l'Institut Musicologique Italien, il enseigne l'analyse du jazz au Conservatoire de Musique 'Santa Cecilia' de Rome et la musicologie générale et transculturelle à l'Université de Macerata. Laurent Cugny est musicien, pianiste et arrangeur. Il a créé le big band Lumière, joué et enregistré avec Gil Evans et dirigé l'Orchestre National de Jazz. Il dirige aujourd'hui le Gil Evans Paris Workshop. Auteur de nombreux articles et d'ouvrages, il est professeur à l'université Paris-Sorbonne. Benjamin Givan, docteur en musique de l'Université de Yale, est professeur associé de musique au Skidmore College. Par MARTON KEREKFY. Introduction and Dance exploits the alto saxophone's characteristic sound and virtuosity. It starts with a slow, nascent music, which gives way to a very fast dance with aksak rhythm in an asymmetrically segmented 8/16 meter. The work was commissioned by and is dedicated to saxophonist Levente Puskás and pianist Judit Váradi, who premiered it in September 2020 in the Hungarian Radio, and then first performed in concert in November that year. Márton Kerékfy (b. 1981) studied musicology and composition at the Liszt Academy of Music in Budapest (2000-2007) and received his PhD in musicology (2015) from the same institution. In 2006 he spent one semester on an Erasmus Grant at the Mozarteum in Salzburg. Benet Casablancas' Haikus for solo Piano. Widely regarded as one of the leading Spanish composers of his generation Casablancas studied in Vienna at the Academy of Music and in Barcelona at the Universidad Autònoma from which he graduated with a degree in philosophy before gaining a PhD in musicology. His music firmly rooted in the great modernist tradition is notable for its great individuality structural complexity and extraordinary richness of textural detail. In the 1990s he became more concerned with harmony timbral differentiation and instrumental virtuosism. Critics highlight his concern for balancingconstructional rigour and expressive strength lyricism dramatic character and whimsical register. Benet Casablancas' works are performed regularly around Europe Canada US Japan and Latin America. His first opera 'L´Enigma Di Lea' was commissioned by Gran Teatre del Liceu de Barcelona for its 2017 season. Par PURCELL HENRY. Purcell Dido and Aeneas (Full Score, paperback) The opera ?Dido and Aeneas?, a recount of the well-known story from Book IV of Virgil's Aeneid, has established itself as a favourite with the public. This is due to the skill of composer Henry Purcell and his librettist Nahum Tate, who combined an overriding tragic theme with masterfully inserted comic episodes. Long believed to have been conceived in 1689 for a performance at a ?School for Young Gentlewomen?, scholars have debated the origins of ?Dido? in recent decades, a process hampered by the lack of early musical sources. This edition addresses these challenges and evaluates the earliest sources that reproduce the opera in its surviving form. Surprisingly, these date from the 1770s and 80s, some ninety years after the work was written. Three key manuscripts ? now held at the Bodleian Library in Oxford (UK), at Tatton Park Library which is a National Trust property near Manchester (UK), and at the Wakayama Prefectural Library (Japan) - were all copied from the same original, most likely a handwritten score from 1704 which reappeared in the early 1770s, only to disappear again. This is the first 'Dido' edition based on the Tatton Park manuscript as the main source. It was produced during the second half of the 18th century by Philip Hayes, one of England's most prominent musicians. He was known in musicology for his meticulous copies of Purcell's music, often from the autograph manuscripts. That has always been my motto and I have only tried to use music to express all the feelings life consists of. This has led people todescribe my music as both ?so sad that it sounds like birds who have lost their wings? and ?the happiest classical music we ever heard?. I have also always preferred beautiful music to atonal music and that is surely the reason why the most part of my music is more on the sad side but what a dream it would be to be able to create beautiful music that?s bubbling over with joy! My compositions consist of almost only sacral music. This is to express my own faith but also my appreciation and respect for the timeless texts that have been used for centuries after centuries.In 1994 I was lucky enough to start conducting the female choir Carmen and I conducted them until we decided to disunite 2010. This is of course the biggest reason why most of my compositions are for female choirs the knowledge that what I write during the night will be tested the next evening is a driving force that not so many are lucky enough to have.I work as a voice music theory and conducting teacher and conductor in Uppsala were I was born -65 and still live.
