This is a reflective piece to consider for later in the Palm Sunday liturgy. The refrain presents the image of children laying flowers before the King, the verses reflect on the vanity of life, but also on the constancy of the Word. The music seems to strike a happy medium between recalling the joyful procession and anticipating the doleful crucifixion. Oboe or other C Instrument.

After combining a beautiful, traditional Irish melody with a fascinating nineteenth-century text, Marilyn Biery then added a relatively simple accompaniment, a straightforward C instrument part, and effective two-part vocal writing to create a synergistic whole! There is some brief SATB divisi near the end of the piece, but the AB parts are completely optional.
