A warm adagio introduction breaks into a joyous Hosanna chorus in this 44-measure homophonic masterwork. Taken from Schubert's Mass No. 4, this edition offers sensible vocal ranges, editorial dynamic and metronome markings, plus a complete IPA guide for the brief Latin text. The orchestral parts have been reduced to a playable piano accompaniment while preserving the Classical characteristics of the original work.

Nineteenth century composer Franz Schubert (1797-1828) wrote more than 600 “lieder” or “songs” – vocal songs accompanied by piano. He raised this to an art form by equalizing the importance of the music and poetry and expanding the role of the piano accompaniment. In this composition, take special notice of the text painting depicted by harmonic shifts and descriptive music.

Carl Philipp Emanuel Bach is rightly regarded as the most important composer of the German art song before Schubert. He set new standards in the interplay of cantabile melodies and expressive piano accompaniment. He was also in personal contact with the great poets of his time - including Gleim, Kleist and Lessing - and shared their interest in the close relationship between literary and musical poesy. In his late years Bach planned a comprehensive selection of his songs, but the project was not completed. This edition follows the original manuscript of his Polyhymnia collection.
