Schubert’s famous Ave Maria was originally titled Ellens dritter Gesang and was the sixth song in the Fräulein vom See song cycle (after The Lady of the Lake by Walter Scott). Later the Latin prayer Ave Maria was set to the melody, creating one of his most well-known sacred songs ever. In this arrangement the melody line can be played by either a solo trumpet or by the entire trumpet section. Either option creates a wonderful atmosphere that will entertain and enlighten your audience. The Lady of the Lake. We proudly bring you another one of Robert van Berigen’s spectacular arrangements of popular classical works, based on Franz Schubert’s famous song, The Trout, Op. 32, composed in 1817. Schubert liked the melody so much he used it again in his Trout Quintet in 1819. This arrangement will both charm and delight your audience.

Two popular marches from the classical repertoire are paired together in this wonderful new arrangement. Jeremiah Clarke's (1674--1707) Trumpet Voluntary was originally written for organ and trumpet and is frequently heard as a processional at wedding ceremonies. Franz Schubert's (1797--1828) Marche Militaire was originally written as a piano duet but has been reset for various instrumental ensembles. This effective arrangement gives the young band student an opportunity to perform two of the most famous marches of all time. (Correlated to Accent on Achievement, Book 1, Page 30).

Franz Schubert (1797-1828), great Austrian composer, was a supreme melodist and master of lieder. This transcription is based on his Sanctus (Holy, Holy, Holy) from his German Mass in F. (ca. 1815) for four-part choir and lends itself well to the expressive qualities of the modern brass quintet.

Combining references to 20th-century Russian music with slapstick humor, Popov's Parade is a humble tribute to a great international artist, Oleg Popov, one of the world's best-known clowns. The quote from Schubert's March Militaire parodies Stravinsky's use of this same fragment in his own Circus Polka. Suitable for intermediate level (Grade 3/4) symphonic wind band.

In the rich chalumeau register, a solo (or soli) clarinet voice quietly introduces the hauntingly beautiful melody. Layering into the texture, other voices add timbre and depth. The phrasing is exquisite, and teaching opportunities for legato playing abound. A modulation from B-flat to E-flat allows even more sonorities as the work moves to its conclusion. Serious music educators should look closely at this piece. (duration 2:40).
