For SATB unaccompanied This is a simple and elegant miniature in characteristic Skempton style, with graceful choral homophony, seamlessly fluctuating time signatures, and hypnotic, meandering harmonies. The text, by William Shakespeare, is an homage to music.

From one of the UK's bright, emerging choral composers, Rhiannon Randle, is this sublime setting of the familiar Latin text. O nata lux is a personal reflection on the compelling and timeless choral atmosphere depicted by the famous Thomas Tallis setting of these words. Dedicated to the memory of Randle's late grandmother, the work balances a sense of intimate prayer and meditation with a spiritual declamation of the “light born of light.†To see hope and new life in despair and death - for in the darkness we have seena great light - chimes as much with the season of Advent as it does with personal loss. The lilting homophony of the opening is characterised by light tenuti, intended to provide a sense of gentle ebb and flow, almost as if to accentuate the natural emphases of speech. This then broadens into a polyphonic cascade, which hints at Bruckner as much as paying homage to Tallis's own setting. O nata lux is an exciting addition to the Contemporary Choral Series, suitable for intermediate to advanced choirs looking to support and program new music by outstanding young composers.

Georg Kreisler - that's sharp, profoundly dark black humor! The Singphoniker have arranged Georg Kreisler's most famous songs for male ensemble and recorded on CD. The corresponding sheet music for mixed choir SATB with piano accompaniment was published by Schott Music (Georg Kreisler - Lieder und Chansons, ED 22737). In addition to this, individual editions of all songs from the sheet music album are available: The fact that the triangle is a highly underrated instrument is obvious. How good that Kreisler's ambiguous homage to this instrument definitively clarifies its significance. This appealing arrangement with Kreisler's humorous lyrics guarantees a lively atmosphere in the concert.

With Zwei lateinische Marienmotetten for mixed a cappella choir (SATB) and interlude for organ or string quintet, Andreas Pieper has created two gems of Marian devotion which are perfect for being used in church services. The two four-part chants pay homage to the Virgin Mary and refer to two different solemnities of the Roman Catholic Church celebrated in her honour. Whereas Assumpta est Maria is a motet for the Feast of the Assumption of Mary on 15 August, Benedicta es tu, virgo Maria refers to the Feast of the Immaculate Conception celebrated every year on 8 December. Both choral settings can be easily mastered by ambitious church choirs, and the interlude and postlude for organ or string quintet of Assumpta est Maria, the easier one of the two motets, can be easily performed even by amateur musicians.

Midwinter Song is a Christmas carol that calls us to love, faith, and hope. With a beautiful and supportive piano accompaniment and accessible vocal lines, this work will appeal to a wide variety of levels. Susan Labarr's Midwinter Song is a new work for Advent or Christmas. Labarr opens the piece with a gentle piano solo that perfectly captures the mystery of the poetry—the words seem to travel out of a time in the deep past and give homage to the neglected art of both rhythm and rhyme. In particular, the description of the world gathering in amber halls in the first verse wonderfully conjures images of medieval casltes or mead halls lit only with firelight and candles, full with the sound of carols. This beloved text has been given a fresh setting by Randall Giles. It is set in a hymn-like manner, with each verse growing in excitement. The final Let All the World adds a soprano descant and a rich organ harmonization to conclude the work in a blaze of glory. This setting would be appropriate as a hymn for congregation as well as an anthem for choir. Its straightforward style makes it accessible to choirs of all abilities.

Whisper of the Dance was written as a response to William Averitt's choral song cycle, Deepness of the Blue. The deeply artistic poetry by Robert Bode is an homage to the great Langston Hughes. For four-hand piano and mixed voices, this is an advanced work for collegiate, community, and professional choirs. Incredibly effective and will make a great closer.

The Peasant Cantata was written and performed in 1742 as an act of homage to Carl Heinrich Von Dieskau on his becoming 'Lord Of Thee Manor'. The libretto, supplied by Picander, deals with the rejoicing of villagers and their congratulations and good wishes to the new laird and his wife. Many folk melodies are introduced, and most of the numbers are based on merry country dance tunes.
