As one of the great Baroque composers, Antonio Vivaldi's (1678-1741) compositions remain hugely popular to this day. The Four Seasons is his best-known work and therefore, Jean-Claude Veilhan's transcription for Recorder was well-received for making the highly acclaimed work more accessible. Vivaldi's Four Seasons were originally published in 1725 as a Violin Concerto. Each movement's texture varies depending on which season it depicts. These little pieces for the most part come from Handel's Aylesforder Pieces which were published for the first time a few years ago. As almost all of them are written in two-voice versions, i.e. as melody with bass, they are ideal for performances with recorder and basso continuo (piano, harpsichord, spinet).
