Sonatas for Violin and Piano (Harpsichord) 4-6-Lorsqu?il était maître de chapelle à Koethen Jean-Sébastien Bach se consacra principalement à la musique instrumentale. C?est là que virent notamment le jour les sonates parvenues à la postérité sous la forme du cycle pour violon et clavecin obligé BWV 1014?1019. Le violoniste et le claveciniste/pianiste y sont sollicités autant l?un que l?autre. En effet à l?instar des sonates pour flûte et viole de gambe de Bach celles-ci constituent les fondements de la sonate en duo au sens moderne. La pure fonction d?accompagnement de la basse continue laisse place à une partie de clavier autonome conférant à chaque sonate un caractère individuel. Cette édition se fonde principalement surles copies réalisées par Altnickol gendre de Bach. Il existe de nombreuses versions de la sonate en sol majeur BWV 1019 comportant chacune des mouvements différents. It has been reconstructed from a lost violin concerto that survives solely in Bach's arrangement for harpsichord, namely, as the Harpsichord Concerto in F minor (BWV 1056). The reconstruction is based on a meticulous evaluation of those autograph harpsichord concertos that also survive in an original version for violin. In particular, the autograph harpsichord parts contain changes that Bach made when preparing his arrangements, thereby revealing the manner in which he transcribed his solo violin works for the harpsichord.
