Norgard writes of his work: Lila is a Sanskrit word for playing with the elements, and I chose it as the title of the chamber work I composed in 1972 because its coolly systematic play (with overtones and undertones in the infinity sequences and a spectrum of Golden Sections in the rhythms) is characteristic of the period just before I wrote my Third Symphony (1973-75).The work was given its first performance in Venice, in the Teatro La Fenice on 9th September 1972, alongside Kagel's Anagram, from which Lila borrowed its instrumentation, since it was commissioned for a first performance by the Prisma Ensemble along with Anagram, with Tamas Veto, to whom it is dedicated, conducting. Ensemble: 4 percussionists (gong, 3 tam-tams, crotales, glockenspiel, tubular bells, celesta, vibraphone, xylophone), 2 pianos, 2 harps, flute (as well as flute in G and piccolo), B flat clarinet (and bass clarinet). $39.95 - See more - Buy onlinePre-shipment lead time: 2 to 3 weeks

On 13 December 1769 Leopold Mozart and his son Wolfgang set out on their first tour of Italy. It was not until 28 March 1771 that they finally returned to Salzburg. The trip brought the young composer two commissions for opere serie. In March 1770 he was commissioned to write Mitridate, K.87 (74a), for the 1770-71 Carneval season at the Regio Ducal Teatro in Milan. Mozart started work on the opera in Bologna on 29 September 1770, and the premiere duly took place on the Feast of St. Stephen (26 December) in 1770. The second, Lucio Silla (K. 135), again commissioned for the 1771-72 Carneval season in Milan, doubtless resulted from the success of Mitridate. News of the commission reached the Mozarts in March 1771 in Verona, where they had stopped on their return to Salzburg. (At roughly the same time Wolfgang received an invitation from Vienna to supply a serenata teatrale for the wedding of Archduke Ferdinand, the third son of Maria Theresia, scheduled to take place in Milan in October 1771. This invitation ultimately resulted in Ascanio in Alba, K. 111.)

Methods and Music for Children SKU: UT.DM-50 Composed by Alessandra Ances...(+)
Methods and Music for Children SKU: UT.DM-50 Composed by Alessandra Anceschi, Gabrielangela Spaggiari, and Irene Bonfrisco. Saddle stitching. Fare Musica. Classical. Ut Orpheus #DM 50. Published by Ut Orpheus (UT.DM-50). ISBN 9790215315266. 9 x 12 inches. $25.95 - See more - Buy onlinePre-shipment lead time: 3 to 4 weeks

Italian-English. - Pergolesi - It. - Intro in It/Eng -. Some few months after returning to Naples from Rome, where he had gone to follow the premiere of L'Olimpiade at the Teatro Tordinona during the 1735 carnival season, Giovanni Battista Pergolesi -- notwithstanding the quickened pace of the disease that would soon bring his brief life to a close -- presented the public with a new work, Il Flaminio, a commedeja pe' mmuseca set to a libretto by Gennarantonio Federico. The opera was staged as the second of season that fall at the Teatro Nuovo sopra Toledo (one of three traditional venues, together with the Teatro dei Fiorentini and the Teatro della Pace, dedicated to the production of opere buffe), where it met with a generally favorable reception. The edition includes a historical Introduction, a description of all the sources considered and a Commentary with critical notes and information related to specific problems of performance practice. $39.99 - See more - Buy onlinePre-shipment lead time: 24 hours - In Stock

Piano Accompaniment; Voice (Vocal Score) SKU: HL.50605482 Ricordi Opera Vocal Score Series Reduction from the Critical Edition. Composed by Giacomo Puccini. Edited by Martin Deasy. Vocal Score. Classical, Opera. Softcover. Ricordi #CP14175800. Published by Ricordi (HL.50605482). ISBN 9781705190449. UPC: 196288126348. What is being presented here is the piano vocal score of Le Villi, Giacomo Puccini's first stage work, the full score of which was published by Casa Ricordi (NR 141755) in 2020.The premiere of Le Villi took place at the Teatro Regio in Turin on 27 December 1884,and was followed by a Milanese performance at Teatro alla Scala on 24 January 1885: both productions were quite well received by critics and public alike. The critical edition by Martin Deasy is based on the autograph score that Puccini initially prepared for the one-act version (Willis), and later modified for the two-act, revised version (Villi). Pursuing a groundbreaking philological approach, the editor has, furthermore, taken into proper consideration the contemporaneous printed editions of the piano vocal score, which constitute, in his view, the principal collateral sources, if one is to consider the particular genesis of this work. For it is certain that Puccini, upon entering the Sonzogno competition, submitted a score of Willis that lacked proper orchestrationin a few pages and displayed, above all, incomplete vocal lines. However, he also provided a manuscript reduction for piano and vocal score (now lost, except for the final Number of Willis) that was undoubtedly more detailed, as far as the vocal lines were concerned. The editor demonstrates that the vocal material realized for the first performance of Willis was not derived from the autograph score, but from the lost score reduction. The latter also served as the basis for the preparation of Ricordi's printed edition of the piano vocal score. $37.00 - See more - Buy onlinePre-shipment lead time: 2 to 3 weeks

Voice and Piano - intermediate SKU: HL.50603593 Ed. crit. R. Parker-R. Ward - Riduzione per canto e pianoforte. Composed by Gaetano Donizetti. Ricordi. Softcover. Composed 2020. Ricordi #CP14161600. Published by Ricordi (HL.50603593). ISBN 9788881920709. UPC: 840126945102. 8.0x10.5x1.3 inches. Italian-English. Donizetti's Lucrezia Borgia was premiered at Milan's Teatro alla Scala on 26 December 1833 and is considered one of the composer's most important and innovative operas of the 1830s. Although, because of censorship issues, particularly in the south of Italy, it was initially slow to become popular, by the late 1830s it had become one of the composer's most popular operas, both in Italy and abroad, and remained an essential part of the composer's oeuvre until at least the end of the nineteenth century. Remarkable for its daring subject matter (with an unconventional, forceful heroine), it is also renowned for its challenging mixture of the comic and the tragic, something very unusual at the time and clearly an important influence on Giuseppe Verdi's middle period masterpieces. The present reduction for voice and piano derives from the critical edition of the score, recently published in this catalog: is based on Donizetti's autograph manuscript (housed in the Ricordi Archives in Milan), on the libretto for the premiere, on several printed editions of voice and piano, and on numerous additional scores of the period. It presents for the first time all the numerous additions that the composer made to the score over the course of ten years: a fascinating record of his changing music dramatic attitudes during this period. There is also a synthetic historical reconstruction of the genesis of the opera and of the description of the Sources as well as a selection of most interest to singers of Critical Commentary Notes.
$44.00 - See more - Buy onlinePre-shipment lead time: 2 to 3 weeks

Orequesta sinfonica, Orquesta camara, voces y coro (Symphony Orchestra, Chamber Orchestra, Solo Voices and Choir) SKU: BO.B.3472 A la memoria de Salvador Espriu. Composed by Xavier Benguerel. Vocal Music. Choir. Duration 85:00. Published by Editorial de Musica Boileau (BO.B.3472). ISBN 9788480208130. English comments: The Requiem in memory of Salvador Espriu by Xavier Benguerel was commissioned by the Torroella de Montgri International Music Festival for a double commemoration: on the one hand, to celebrate the tenth anniversary of the Festival, and on the other, in remembrance of Catalan poet Salvador Espriu in the fifth year after his death. This concert, which was held on 5 October, was a brilliant closing gala performance and it was repeated twice on 6 and 7 October at the Palau de la Musica Catalana in Barcelona. It was performed by the Orchestra and Choir of the Gran Teatro del Liceo, with soloists Enriqueta Tarres, soprano; Nelibel Martinez, mezzo soprano; Eduard Gimenez, tenor; and Carlos Chausson, baritone, with the additional collaboration of baritone Lluis Llach, conducted by Romano Gandolfi. In my opinion, this work by Benguerel is a piece that was written with passion and sincerity, with great strength and depth, and it contains some very beautiful passages. It is written in a language through which, without abandoning his current musical thoughts, Benguerel manages to communicate with the audience in a dense work that lasts for an hour and a half. It is interspersed with seven poems by Espriu on the subject of death, some sung and others recited, which gives the Requiem great contrasts from a musical and linguistic point of view -in comparison with the Latin texts normally used in a requiem mass-, but within a successful and coherent unity. The performers certainly proved their worth, but much of the hard work that went into preparing the piece can be attributed not only to the performers, the composer and the poet in tribute to whom the work was written, but also to the conductor Romano Gandolfi, who is largely responsible for the success of the three performances of this Requiem. Benguerel himself says of the work: This Requiem is linked to my previous work, the Llibre Vermell, and it has been written without making any concessions, but with a true wish to communicate with the audience. I've got past the stage of musical experiments and I'm now working on bridging the gap between composer and audience, which I'm sure will be good for both.

Guitarra (Guitar) y Piano SKU: BO.B.3106 Composed by Jordi Cervello. Plucked Instruments. Duration 21:00. Published by Editorial de Musica Boileau (BO.B.3106). ISBN 9788480201940. English comments: With reference to the melody used to write the Fanstasia-Concerto, the composer Jordi Cervello says: A few years ago, a friend of mine, Jorge Wagensberg sang me a beautiful old Jewish melody inspired by the hymn Leja Dodi (Come, my beloved) by the Sefardie cabbalist Solomon Alkabez (1505-1576), who is buried in Israel. I was immediately entranced by its two extensive thematic ideas which complement each other perfectly. Its melodic and folk qualities seemed to me to make it an ideal theme for a work for guitar and orchestra. The orchestration is a fine thread of metallic timbres, which are present both in the very delicate subtleties of the pianissimi passages and the brilliant tutti. Moreover, the cler tonal definition of the melody contrasts with audacious harmonic contrapunctual textures, characteristic of the most advanced musical styles of our times. The solo guitar part is a model piece of compositon for the guitar, both for its melody and harmony. It puts forward extremely original formulas which are very effective from an instrumental point of view. Its abundant use of arpeggios, chords, harmonic pedals and other instrumental resources ensure that the dialogue with the orchestra is based completely on guitar-playing techniques, putting the guitarist's expressive skill and mastery to the test. This work was first performed on December 3 1997 in Sabadell's La Farandula Theatre performed by the Valles Symphonic Orchestra conducted by its permanent conductor Salvador Brotons. The guitar solo part was played by Jaume Torrent, to whom the work is dedicated.
$23.95 - See more - Buy onlinePre-shipment lead time: 4 to 6 weeks

Guitar and orchestra SKU: BO.B.3105 Composed by Jordi Cervello. Plucked Instruments. Duration 21:00. Published by Editorial de Musica Boileau (BO.B.3105). ISBN 9788480202350.

Voice, Piano Accompaniment (Vocal Score) - intermediate SKU: HL.50603505 Reduction for Voice and Piano based on the Critical Edition. By Ivano Bettin. By Antonio Vivaldi. Vocal Score. Classical. Softcover. Composed 2020. 252 pages. Ricordi #CP14195600. Published by Ricordi (HL.50603505). ISBN 9788881920549. UPC: 840126929034. 8x11 inches. Italian-English. - Vivaldi - It. - Intro in It./Eng. -. The present reduction derives from the critical edition of the score, published in this catalog in November 2019. Antonio Vivaldi's La Dorilla, a heroic-pastoral opera on a libretto by Antonio Maria Lucchini, was premiered at the Teatro Sant'Angelo in Venice on 6 November 1726. Six years later it was revived in a much shortened and altered form at the Sporck Theatre in Prague. In 1734 it returned for the last time to the Venetian stage at the Teatro Sant Angelo, where, despite being greatly revised, it was once again successful. Many of its recitatives had been shortened and several arias replaced, some with movements borrowed from other operas by Vivaldi and some with arias taken from ones by other composers, such as Johann Adolf Hasse, Geminiano Giacomelli, Domenico Sarro and Leonardo Leo. The adaptation was the work of the Venetian man of letters Bartolomeo Vitturi, who adjusted the libretto with the precise aim of satisfying the demands of the public, which wished to hear the most famous pieces by the composers who were fashionable in those years. This vocal-score edition includes a synthetic introduction of the historical context, the description of the main source employed and a choice of the critical Notes to the musical text. $34.00 - See more - Buy onlinePre-shipment lead time: 24 hours - In Stock

VI: Numero del matto sul filo SKU: HL.50603661 For Flute and Piano. Composed by Nino Rota. Arranged by C. Tabarelli. Woodwind Solo. Softcover. Ricordi #NR142177. Published by Ricordi (HL.50603661). ISBN 9781705127827. UPC: 840126952285. This work is a reworking of the music written by Nino Rota for the film of the same name by Federico Fellini, Oscar winner in 1957. In 1967 Rota composed the music for the ballet La strada for the Teatro alla Scala, in collaboration with the choreographer Mario Pistoni, where Carla Fracci was expected to play the role of Gelsomina. This show has always remained alive in my memory since in those years I began the profession of flutist at La Scala, where I also had the opportunity to perform ballet. The transcription traces the salient moments of the plot, highlighted by the captions taken from the original score. Free of virtuosity, so appreciated by the flutists, it is conceived with the intention of restoring the dramaturgical tension of the Fellini-Rota masterpiece. (C. Tabarelli). $12.99 - See more - Buy onlinePre-shipment lead time: 2 to 3 weeks

| Suite Sobre Cantos Populares Gallegos Editorial de Musica Boileau

Symphony orchestra SKU: BO.B.3624 Composed by E. Granados/M. Mestre. Published by Editorial de Musica Boileau (BO.B.3624). The Suite on Galician songs was written in 1899 and debuted on 31 October that same year, as part of a series of concerts organised by the Philharmonic Society of Barcelona at the Teatro Lirico, under the direction of Joan Lamote de Grignon.
The work is made up of four movements: I. Canto de la manana (‘Morning song'), also known as En la montana (‘In the mountains'), II. Danza Scherzo (Galician folk dance), III. Morrina (‘Homesickness') and IV. La Fiesta (finale). The entire composition is laced with Galician folk melodies, which serve as the pretext for developing a piece that is entirely descriptive and scenic in nature, by means of a meticulous and precise orchestration of great technical and folkloric interest. The work reveals not only Granados' great technical expertise as orchestrator, but also his imagination and intelligence when recreating the most distinctive sounds of traditional Galician folk music. He achieves this effect through a masterful use of instrumentation and experimentation throughout the 23 minute duration of this magnificent suite. $56.95 - See more - Buy onlinePre-shipment lead time: 4 to 6 weeks
