Based on the poems by German poet Carl Hauptmann (late Romanticism) and the English poet William Wordsworth (early Romanticism).

Carl Hauptmann was in poor health as a child, but highly intelligent. He studied philosophy, psychology and biology. In the latter he was admitted to the degree of doctor. His marriage provided financial independence, so that he could focus on his studies.
Hauptmann wrote various novels, plays, poetry and scientific works.

Wordsworth 'introduced' a new type of poetry, based on the speech of the common man. This was his answer to the poetry of the classicism which was bound by rigid rules. His definition of poetry was: the spontaneous overflow of powerful feelings from emotions recollected in tranquility.

In a truly poetic manner Harrie Janssen has transformed the contemplative thoughts of the poets into two compositions for Concert Band.

Two Symphonic Interludes is gebaseerd op gedichten van de Duitse dichter Carl Hauptmann (laat Romantiek) en de Engelse dichter William Wordsworth (vroeg Romantiek).

Carl Hauptmann had als kind een zeer zwakke gezondheidmaar was zeer intelligent. Hij studeerde Filosofie, Psychologie en Biologie. In het laatste vak promoveerde hij. Het huwelijk zorgde voor financiele onafhankelijkheid zodat hij zich kon richten op zijn verdere studie. Hauptmannschreef enkele romans, toneelstukken, poëzie en wetenschappelijke werken.

Song of Friendship was commissioned by the Concert Band of Jumonji University, Saitama, Japan and their conductor, Yutaka Nishida. The commission marked the 50th year of Yutaka Nishida’s involvement with bands as a player, conductor and radio presenter. The ceremonial Song of Friendship opens with an extended fanfare, largely featuring the brass section. This leads to the main theme, which develops slowly until it is played by the full band. A change of key signals a contrasting central section containing a quiet woodwind chorale, which grows until the return of the triumphant sounding main theme. Elements of the opening fanfare then close the work.

Song of Friendship werd geschreven voor het harmonieorkest van de Jumonji University in Saitama, Japan, en dirigent Yutaka Nishida. De opdracht markeerde tevens het vijftigste jaar dat Yutaka Nishida al actief was met blaasorkesten als muzikant, dirigent en radiopresentator. Song of Friendship opent met een uitgebreide fanfare waarin vooral de kopersectie aan het woord is. Dit gedeelte leidt naar het hoofdthema, dat geleidelijk verder wordt uitgewerkt tot het door het volledige orkest wordt gespeeld. Een modulatie kondigt een contrasterend middendeel aan, met een rustig koraal in het hout dat zich verder ontwikkelt tot aan de terugkeer van hettriomfantelijk klinkende hoofdthema. Het werk wordt afgesloten met elementen uit de openingsfanfare.

Song of Friendship wurde vom Blasorchester der Jumonji University in Saitama (Japan) und seinem Dirigenten Yutaka Nishida in Auftrag gegeben. Song of Friendship est une commande de l’orchestre d’harmonie de l’Université de Jumonji, Saitama, Japon, et de leur chef Yutaka Nishida. La commande marque aussi la 50e année de l’engagement de Yutaka Nishida avec des bands, que ce soit comme joueur, chef d’orchestre ou présentateur radio. Le cérémonial Song of Friendship commence par une longue fanfare, mettant en scène en particulier les cuivres. Ceci nous mène au thème principal qui se développe ensuite graduellement jusqu’ une interprétation par l’ensemble entier. Une modulation signale le début de la section centrale contrastante. Il celebrativo Song of Friendship si apre con un esteso tema di fanfara che presenta ampiamente la sezione degli ottoni. Questo conduce al tema principale, che si sviluppa gradualmente fino all’esecuzione da parte di tutta la banda. Un cambio di tonalit anticipa una contrastante sezione centrale che contiene un calmo corale di legni che cresce fino al ritorno trionfante del tema principale. The Tower of Pisa is beyond doubt the most famous and legendary tower in the world. The main motif symbolizes the three bells of the tower. The motif is transformed throughout the piece in which the spectacular effect of a downward motive playedagainst sustained chords, symbolizing the leaning tower, is used. The finale portrays a parade of all bands from around Pisa coming to town to celebrate, accompanied by the bells of the tower!

De Toren van Pisa is zonder twijfel de beroemdste en meest legendarische toren van de wereld. In dit werk symboliseert het hoofdmotief de drie klokken van de toren. Dit hoofdthema wordt gaandeweg getransformeerd, terwijl halverwege de compositieeen spectaculair neerwaarts motief tegenover aangehouden akkoorden staat voor het scheef hellen van de toren. De finale weerspiegelt een optocht van blaasorkesten uit de omgeving, op weg naar Pisa om er feest te vieren, begeleid door hetklokkenmotief!

Der Schiefe Turm von Pisa gehört zweifellos zu den berühmtesten und legendärsten Türmen der Welt. Das Hauptmotiv des Stückes symbolisiert die drei Glocken des Turms. Das Thema mit dem großartigen Effekt eines abwärtsgehenden Motivs, welches denschiefen Turm symbolisiert, im Kontrast zu den gehaltenen Akkorden, kehrt im gesamten Stück in verschiedenen Versionen wieder. Das Finale stellt eine Parade aller Orchester aus der Umgebung von Pisa dar, die zum Feiern in die Stadt kommen und von denGlocken des Turms begleitet werden!

La tour de Pise est sans doute la tour la plus célèbre et légendaire du monde. Le motif principal symbolise les trois cloches de la tour et est transformé tout au long du morceau. En contraste aux accords soutenus, une impression descendante estcréée par un autre motif qui symbolise la tour inclinée. Le final dépeint une parade de tous les orchestres des alentours de Pise qui se rassemblent en ville pour célébrer, accompagnées par les cloches de la tour !

Quella di Pisa è, con ogni probabilit , la più famosa torre al mondo. The fever tree is a controversial legend about St. Willibrord (658-739).
The daughter of a pagan chieftain of Hoemannen that made the area around
Heumen unsafe, was seriously ill. They feared for her life.

De compositie 'The Fever Tree' (De koortsboom) werd in 2008 geschreven in opdracht van de Muziekbond Midden- en Oost Nederland St.Willibrord, als geschenk aan al haar leden bij gelegenheid van de vorming van één landelijke muziekorganisatieen de opheffing van de muziekbond voor Midden- en Oost Nederland St.Willibrord.

De koortsboom is een omstreden legende rond St. Willibrord (658-739).
De dochter van de heidense hoofdman van de Hoemannen, diehet gebied rond Heumen onveilig maakten, was ernstig ziek. Men vreesde voor haar leven. De hoofdman van de roofzuchtige bende wende zich tot Willibrord, die in dezelfde tijd in deze streek missioneerde. Willibrord gebood deman zich te bekeren én een hoofdband van het meisje aan een bepaalde, bijzondere boom te hangen. De radeloze hoofdman gehoorzaamde en zijn dochter werd op wonderbaarlijke wijze genezen. Toen keerde de woede van de Hoemannen zichtegen hun leider, die in hun ogen verraad had gepleegd aan de groep door zich te bekeren. Ze vergrepen zich aan hem en vermoordden hem op gruwelijke wijze. De dochter bleef in grote droefheid achter, getroost door Willibrord.

De compositie kent de volgende tableaus:

De compositie 'The Fever Tree' (De koortsboom) werd in 2008 geschreven in opdracht van de Muziekbond Midden- en Oost Nederland St.Willibrord, als geschenk aan al haar leden bij gelegenheid van de vorming van één landelijke muziekorganisatieen de opheffing van de muziekbond voor Midden- en Oost Nederland St.Willibrord.

De koortsboom is een omstreden legende rond St. Willibrord (658-739).
De dochter van de heidense hoofdman van de Hoemannen, diehet gebied rond Heumen onveilig maakten, was ernstig ziek. Men vreesde voor haar leven. De hoofdman van de roofzuchtige bende wende zich tot Willibrord, die in dezelfde tijd in deze streek missioneerde. Willibrord gebood deman zich te bekeren én een hoofdband van het meisje aan een bepaalde, bijzondere boom te hangen. De radeloze hoofdman gehoorzaamde en zijn dochter werd op wonderbaarlijke wijze genezen. Toen keerde de woede van de Hoemannen zichtegen hun leider, die in hun ogen verraad had gepleegd aan de groep door zich te bekeren. Ze vergrepen zich aan hem en vermoordden hem op gruwelijke wijze. De dochter bleef in grote droefheid achter, getroost door Willibrord.

De compositie kent de volgende tableaus:

- Andante moderato - de roeping van Willibrord
- Allegro moderato - Willibrord trekt door het Brabantse land en tracht de bevolking te bekeren
- Vivace - deHoemannen terroriseren de inwoners van het gebied rond Heumen
- Andante - de genezing van het zieke meisje en de bekering van de hoofdman
- Inquieto - de wraak van de Hoemannen
- Adagio - treurzang over de doodvan de hoofdman.

Golden Winds was commissioned by Jugendblasorchester Schramberg, Germany, to celebrate their 50th anniversary in 2012. They gave the premiere, conducted by Andreas Hirt, at their Christmas concert that year.The work opens with a nervously energetic theme in the lower woodwinds, which is developed in canon and builds to climax for the whole band. The mood subsides to introduce a meditative section featuring first the clarinets and then a rich, chorale-like theme which grows into a passionate tutti. This then leads to the main body of the piece, a rhythmic vivo, which introduces its main theme quietly before it is taken up by the full band. A brief bridge passage thenintroduces a muscular second subject which develops until the bridge passage reappears to lead to a repeat of the main theme. This is transformed to herald a return of the opening bars of the piece, which now bring the work to a celebratory close.

Golden Winds werd geschreven in opdracht van het Jugendblasorchester Schramberg uit Duitsland, dat in 2012 zijn vijftigjarig bestaan vierde. Het orkest bracht het werk in premiere tijdens het kerstconcert van het jubileumjaar, onder leiding van dirigent Andreas Hirt.De compositie begint met een koortsachtig, energiek thema in het lage hout. Dit ontvouwt zich vervolgens tot een canon, die uitmondt in een door het complete orkest uitgevoerd hoogtepunt. De muziek wordt rustiger van sfeer en er ontwikkelt zich een meditatieve passage, aanvankelijk gespeeld door de klarinetten, waarna een rijk, koraalachtig thema uitgroeit tot een gepassioneerd tutti. Het centralegedeelte van het werk, een ritmisch vivo, introduceert het hoofdthema, eerst zachtjes en dan weerklinkend in het hele orkest. Een kort fragment leidt een krachtig tweede motief in, waarop wordt voortgebouwd totdat de bridgepassage opnieuw opduikt en ons meevoert naar een herhaling van het hoofdthema. Dat ondergaat een transformatie en kondigt dan de terugkeer van de openingsmaten aan, waarmee het werk op feestelijke wijze wordt afgesloten.

Golden Winds wurde zum 50-jahrigen Jubilaum des Jugendblasorchesters Schramberg in Auftrag gegeben. Die Premiere fand beim Weihnachtskonzert selbigen Jahres unter der Leitung von Andreas Hirt statt.Das Werk setzt mit einem Thema voll gespannter Energie in den tiefen Holzblasern ein, das kanonisch weiterentwickelt wird und sich zu einem Hohepunkt fur das gesamte Orchester aufbaut. Diese Stimmung klingt ab zugunsten eines meditativen Abschnitts, der zunachst die Klarinetten in den Vordergrund ruckt und dann ein volltonendes, choralartiges Thema, das zu einem leidenschaftlichen Tutti anschwillt. Dieses fuhrt zum Hauptteil des Stuckes, einem rhythmischen Vivo, das seinHauptthema leise vorstellt, bevor es vom gesamten Orchester aufgenommen wird. Eine kurze Uberleitung prasentiert ein kraftvolles zweites Thema, das weiterentwickelt wird bis die Uberleitung zuruckkehrt und die Wiederholung des Hauptthemas bewirkt. Dieses verwandelt sich in eine Ankundigung der Eroffnungstakte, die das Werk nun zu einem festlichen Schluss fuhren.

Golden Winds est une commande de l'Harmonie des Jeunes de Schramberg, en Allemagne, pour marquer son cinquantenaire en 2012. L'orchestre a cree cette piece sous la direction d'Andreas Hirt lors de son concert de Noel la meme annee.La piece s'ouvre sur un theme nerveux et energique joue dans le registre grave des bois qui se developpe en canon et s'amplifie pour arriver a un climax avec l'orchestre entier. L'ambiance s'apaise pour introduire un passage contemplatif qui met en avant d'abord les clarinettes, puis un theme opulent en forme de choral qui se transforme en un tutti ardent. Celui-ci mene au corps de la piece, un vivo rythme qui introduit doucement son themeprincipal avant une reprise par l'orchestre entier. Un court passage de transition introduit alors un second sujet muscle qui se developpe jusqu'a la reapparition du passage de transition pour mener a une reprise du theme principal. Ce theme se transforme pour annoncer le retour des premieres mesures de la piece, qui menent a une conclusion festive.
