From the pen of Rob Romeyn comes this powerful and dramatic programmatic work that sounds straight out of a blockbuster movie soundtrack! The music begins with a delicate statement presented by a solo flute, answered by a solo clarinet soaring above transparent harmonies, leading to a beautiful expressive section. From here, the music takes off with an aggressive display of emotion and power, captivating the audience with high intensity. Multiple sections of the ensemble are featured melodically and harmonically as we continue our journey. Many changes in dynamics, harmonic structure, textures, and varied scoring techniques not only enhance the excitement, but make this an outstanding teaching piece. After a breathtaking climax, the expressive section returns, more developed this time. The piece then ends aggressively, sure to have your audience on the edge of their seat until the last note. Don't miss this significant addition to the concert band repertoire!

Angles for Piano Trio plays with a variety of textures and timbres that can be produced on the piano. Each of the four movements takes a different textural or procedural angle. The first movement, With Pluck, uses a lot of pizzicato in the strings, with virtually no use of the pedal in the piano. The second movement, Take a Bow, uses extensive double stops in the strings. The third movement, About a Minute Waltz, is percussive and rhythmic, and the last movement, A Sad Song, contrasts repetitions of a straightforward lyrical stanza with rhapsodic interludes.

The first piece “Sicut ros Hermon†(Psalm 133) meditates on the path God’s mercy takes, whereby the initial slow descending harmonic sequences develop into an emphatic song followed by a tender chorale-like coda. “Si sumpsero pennas aurorae†(Psalm 139) relates to a highly poetic, consolatory but also admonishing image of the psalm: As far as our wings may carry us, God’s hand will take hold of us. We cannot escape his mercy or his judgement. At the end of this striking movement the music conveys almost haptic moments; one can sense the mighty ‘hand’ by means of the tutti sound. Finally the music becomes as calm as at the start of this piece, though dialogue-like figurations convey repercussions of what was experienced and acknowledged.

This powerful new composition takes its inspiration from a special group of people who touched the lives of the East Mecklenburg High School (Charlotte, North Carolina) band program. Although these precious friends have since passed, the music serves to remind us that their contributions will never be forgotten and that the spirit of their lives will continue to shine in our hearts forever. This emotional work is beautifully written and scored to evoke the many emotions of life's joy. Truly inspiring!

An excellent example of Bach as a song writer. Taken from a volume of sacred songs published in 1736, Bach identifies it as an aria, not as a chorale, and must have thought of it as a lyrical melody to be sung in concert rather than as four square chorale.

The Sextet in B-flat major was already judged to be “one of the most beautiful works by this young composer†after its initial performances in early 1861. It was popular with both public and press, and has retained this status to the present day. The publisher Simrock was so impressed by it that he accepted Brahms's suggestion that he should publish a score of it alongside the individual parts - something that was by no means usual at the time. The numerous differences between these two first editions of 1861 continue to present problems to Brahms researchers today. Brahms specialist Katrin Eich has already taken on the task of editing the work for the Brahms Complete Edition, and this new Urtext edition provides the best possible musical text for performance. Naturally, it is available in both score and parts.

In 2008, composer Philip Sparke published the latest volume of his instrumental books, Super Solos. Young German flautist Meinhard Drescher was so taken with these solos that his father secretly commissioned the composer toarrange three of the solos (Little Overture, Berceuse and Moto Perpetuo) into a mini-concerto for flute and concert band, which was presented to Meinhard as a 16th birthday present. Concertino Classico is in the standardquick-slow-quick concerto form and can be played by flute, clarinet or alto saxophone. Introduction: Like a dark veil, an ominous sense of foreboding takes hold across the world. A looming danger, one previously unknown to mankind, slowly approaches, bringing our daily lives to a grinding halt. A perilous virus gives us no choice other than to stay in our homes, leaving us unable to work in our offices or even visit family and friends. Something that has only been talked about in history books is coming to pass: a pandemic! Bar 74: Like a dark veil, an ominous sense of foreboding takes hold across the world. Something that has only been talked about in history books is coming to pass: a pandemic! Bar 82: People help each other out. Neighbourly assistance and support within one's own family becomes more apparent. We stand by each other. Suddenly we have the time for things that we did not have before. Time for reflection... Bar 106: A new era commences. Finally, hope reappears. We leave our houses, but nothing is quite the same anymore. With renewed strength, people begin to perceive the future in a positive and optimistic way once again. With greater attention and awareness of the here and now, we feel that, despite it all, we can be happy.

The notes on this piece state, “‘Lo, Judah’s Lion’ should take on the character of a wild victory dance.†Indeed, the hymn text (with roots in early-17th century Bohemia) takes on a whole new exuberance through the constant 3+3+2 rhythmic pattern. The words compare Jesus’ victory over death with the conquests of David and Samson, each verse ending with an Alleluia and an invitation to praise the Lord.
