| Rise Up, Shepherd! Carl Fischer
Choral Bass 1, Bass 2, baritone voice tenor 1, tenor 2 SKU: CF.CM9634 Com...(+)
Choral Bass 1, Bass 2, baritone voice tenor 1, tenor 2 SKU: CF.CM9634 Composed by Traditional Christmas Spiritual. Arranged by Ken Berg. Sws. Performance Score. 16 pages. Duration 3 minutes, 40 seconds. Carl Fischer Music #CM9634. Published by Carl Fischer Music (CF.CM9634). ISBN 9781491157060. UPC: 680160915620. 6.875 x 10.5 inches. Key: G major. English, English. Traditional Christmas Spiritual. Berg's fantastic setting of this beloved American Christmas spiritual for advanced tenor-bass choirs tells a story of hope and meaning. The various textures throughout the a cappella arrangement with solos add much variety and musical interest. A holiday programming must!. This beloved American Christmas Spiritual, like all spirituals and/or folk songs, tells a story. This is a story of hope and meaning. The introductory solo call and response (mm. 1-7) is hymnic in nature, just to get us started. (Think of it as an effective head fake!) The entrance at m. 8 from the upper three voices (we'll call them the trio part henceforth) is pivotal. They set the stage for the conversation between the singers and the soloist for the rest of the song. From this point, the song is basically a Jazz Trio in vocal form. The bass singers take on the role of the cool dude in the back wearing dark glasses and a beret playing the string bass. They provide the driving force for the forward movement of the entire song. The trio part, basically tenors 1 & 2 and baritones, take on the role of the keyboard providing chordal structure and syncopation. Their job is to fill the listener's ear with sound and rhythm. The soloist tells the story using the known melody and text with appropriate improv opportunities to keep the listeners focused on the message of the song. There is enough repetition to make for easy learning, but this also means that the chords need to snap into position cleanly every time. The Verses are easily identified (there are three) and presented with some small variations in Verse 3 (see mm. 56-58...this only happens once). The Refrain (mm. 30-37) is the part of the song where the singers switch from the Jazz Trio role and actually become a Men's Choral Ensemble. This Refrain is repeated after Verse 3 at mm. 66-71. Between verses 2 & 3, there is not a refrain. Instead, there is a bridge repeated from the introductory material, but used this time to move us into a new key signature. This can be a very exciting moment for the singers as well as the listeners! Measures 72-75 is known in the business as a vamp. It can be repeated once and then move on, OR it can be repeated multiple times, depending on the comfort level of the soloist and the response of the audience. It is important that there be a clear signal from the conductor as to how to end the vamp and move effectively to the actual coda of the song. The ending should be sung with tight control that only looks like reckless abandon! Faces bright; words clean; melody clear; rhythms precise! Enjoy. Concert Band (Score) SKU: HL.4008922 Score. Composed by Otto M. Schwarz. Symphonic Dimensions. Symphony. Softcover. Duration 555 seconds. Hal Leonard #SDP1422201. Published by Hal Leonard (HL.4008922). UPC: 196288277538. A sinister legend hangs over the Borgia family, a legend of corruption, abuse of power, orgies, sex and murder. These rumors proliferated especially during the papacy of Alexander VI, a descendant of the family, who was even called the Antichrist. On his death, contemporary witnesses reported that the devil himself prowled around the death chamber and a black dog run along the corridors of the Vatican as his emissary. One might say that this Borgia pope, who ruled together with his family with the greatest brutality, became demonized. Unscrupulousness, poison-toting, incest and other malice are to this day the hallmarks of this pontiff. 2. NEPOTISM Rodrigo Borgia was elected Pope on August 11, 1492. From the very start, the new pope was prepared to use any means to eliminate his opponents, either through the infamous “Borgia poison” or by excommunication and execution. His son Cesare, who wanted little to do with the church, was appointed cardinal against his will. Alessandro Farnese, broth of Giulia Farnese, the Pope's mistress, also became a cardinal. Numerous Spaniards were brought into the country and were appointed to ecclesiastical posts. This infuriated the opponents of Alexander VI. The Dominican Girolamo Savonarola from Florence demanded the removal of the Pope. He was tortured and banned. Giuliano della Rovere wanted to convene councils to depose the Pope, which Alexander managed to prevent through artful political maneuverings. Through great brutality, brillian political skill and power games, this pope was able to achieve his goal of leaving for his children a great legacy. Alexander VI constantly changed his allies and always acted unscrupulously to improve his financial situation and expand his sphere of influence. At the centre of the second movement of this work is the medieval hymn Dies Irae (Day of Wrath), which acts as a warning in the background condemning the Pope's actions. $43.00 - See more - Buy online

Premiered by the SFGC and Cypress String Quartet, San Francisco Conservatory, CA. Secular choral. Vocal Score. With Standard notation. Composed 2010. 16 pages. Duration 15 minutes. Theodore Presser Company #312-41859. Published by Theodore Presser Company (PR.312418590). UPC: 680160595785. 8.5 x 11 inches. Text by Chen Yi. Often called the Ellis Island of the West, Angel Island in San Francisco was used as an immigration station in the first half of the 20th century, processing some one million Asian immigrants. Because of U.S. policy of the time, many spent years on Angel Island awaiting entry. Recently named a National Historical Landmark, Angel Island and its history is the inspiration behind Chen Yi's Angel Island Passages, commissioned by the San Francisco Girls Chorus. Chen explores the experiences of the immigrants, even using poems carved in the walls, to express the mood, the patient yearning, and the ultimate release and embrace of a new country. Angel Island Passages was premiered June 4-5, 2010 by the SFGC and the Cypress String Quartet at the San Francisco Conservatory. For advanced performers. Duration: 15'. Commissioned by San Francisco Girls Chorus (Executive Director Melanie Smith), and premiered by the SFGC and Cypress String Quartet on June 4, 2010, conducted by SFGC’s Artistic Director Susan McMane, at San Francisco Conservatory, CA, the 3-movement song cycle Angel Island Passages is written for children’s chorus and string quartet, with multimedia projection on the walls of the concert hall, produced by visual artist Felicia Lowe. The creative idea of this work was initiated by Dr. McMane, who invited me to write the music, and sent me the book “Island, poetry and history of Chinese Immigrants on Angel Island, 1910-1940â€, by Him Mark Lai, Genny Lim, and Judy Yung for reference in 2009; also inspired by the Angel Island stories, and through cooperation with Felicia, who shared with me her film “Carved in Silence†and video productions “Chinatown†and “Road to Restorationâ€.I named the first movement of my work as “1882â€, which reflected the dark mood under the Chinese Exclusion Act of 1882. The collective poems carved on the wooden walls in Angel Island expressed deep emotion in sorrow and anxiety. The music in the second movement “Longing†is sad and sentimental. The third movement is called “We Are Americaâ€, which is ever-moving, energetic and optimistic. The text sung in the beginning in Chinese means “I am an Americanâ€. It’s sung in Cantonese dialect, then in Mandarin. As the music develops, from homophonic to polyphonic with increasing layers, the climax is reached when the text is turned to English “We Are Americaâ€, which symbolizes the flourishing society with the great contribution from thousands of immigrants during the years. The music fades out towards the ending of the work, which pushes the scene to a remote picture, to look forward to the future peace of the world.I am grateful to have the opportunity to work with such inspiring creative artists in this project, and hope the work is meaningful to our new society after the premiere performance.—Chen Yi. $8.99 - See more - Buy onlinePre-shipment lead time: 2 to 3 weeks

| Le Rossiniane Op. 120, 121, 122, 123, 124 Guitar Durand

Guitar SKU: HL.50566004 For Solo Guitar critical edition and notes for the interpretation. Composed by Mauro Giuliani. Arranged by Fré, dé, and ric Zigante. Editions Durand. Classical. Softcover. 176 pages. Editions Durand #DF01669600. Published by Editions Durand (HL.50566004). ISBN 9781705150580. UPC: 196288017639. 9.0x12.0x0.48 inches. Mauro Giuliani's Rossiniane, published between 1821 and 1828, are a series of six musical potpourris entirely based on the music of Gioachino Rossini. The potpourri was one of the most popular instrumental genres of the early 1800s, an assembly of musical themes with different origins combined into a single composition. In the absence of the modern means of reproducing music, they had a very important function: of bringing music, most often created for the theatre, into the home. Some important points can be deduced from Giuliani's epistolary exchanges: the first is that the Rossiniane were part of his own concert repertoire: the second is that Rossini was not only aware of the project which would bear his name, but also collaborated with Giuliani in some ways, providing him with some themes expressly composed for his works. The third is that Giuliani was well aware that these pieces represented a new development for his own compositions and for the musical panorama of the time, “a hitherto-unknown style.†This edition of the Rossiniane is based on the contemporary musical sources that have come down to us. It is enhanced by some remarks on interpretation that should help towards making an accurate and coherent reading of this distinctive and original musical text. $32.00 - See more - Buy onlinePre-shipment lead time: 24 hours - In Stock
| Central American Songs [Score and Parts] Papagena Press
Chamber Music Flute, Medium Voice, Percussion, Piano SKU: PR.PP349 Op....(+)
Chamber Music Flute, Medium Voice, Percussion, Piano SKU: PR.PP349 Op. 49. Composed by Katherine Hoover. Sws. Score and parts. With Standard notation. Papagena Press #PP349. Published by Papagena Press (PR.PP349). UPC: 680160561889. The Central American Songs were written on commission from the Fourth Festival of Women Composers, for Festival directors Sara Mantel, mezzo-soprano, and Susan Wheatley, piano. They were premiered with Carl Adams, flute, and Gary Olmstead, percussion, at Gorell Hall, Indiana University of Pennsylvania, on March 21, 1996. When I was asked to write some songs for this festival (Fourth Festival of Women Composers), my thoughts turned to a most unusual book titled 'IXOK AMAR * GO' (subtitled; Central American Woman's Poetry for Peace), edited by Zoe Anglesey. The book is printed in Spanish and English, with some poems, and the title, in Mayan. The title means; 'Women Going Forward with Love, not Bitterness Many of the countries in Central America have the inherently unstable situation of a large population of 'peasants' - largely poor and Native American - and a very small group of extremely rich non-Indian landowners. The latter tends to control the government and army as well as the land and have traditionally cultivated close ties with the US government. During the 1980' s, Nicaragua and El Salvador experience prolonged struggles that stemmed from these harsh disparities, and one is currently active in southern Mexico. In Guatemala, the military government has carried out systematic actions against the Mayans, a peaceful, artistic culture. These have included forced removal and massacres. Only in the last few years has the United States tried to discourage these acts, leaving many in the region very bitter indeed. (We still remain the major supplier of weapons to this brutal regime.) The award of a Nobel Peace Prize to a Guatemalan Mayan woman, Rigoberto Menchu, in 1992 focused international attention on the situation and helped curb the atrocities. The poems come directly from these struggles for freedom and integrity, and reflect the lives of women caught up in these events. Movement I, The Woman of the Huipil is based on The Word by Celina Garcia. Movement II, Remedies is based on a poem by Virginia Grutter ; translated by Janet Rodney. Movement III, Prayer for a son disappeared is based on a poem by Maria Perez Tzu ; transcribed from Mayan and translated by Ambar Past. A huipil is a colorful and intricately embroidered vest that Mayan women traditionally wear. Until the current repressive climate began in the 1970' s, America, or Amerigo were common names in central America. - K. | The Power of the Megatsunami Brass ensemble [Score and Parts] - Intermediate Gobelin Music Publications
Brass Band - Grade 4 SKU: BT.GOB-000449-030 Composed by Carl Wittrock. Se...(+)
Brass Band - Grade 4 SKU: BT.GOB-000449-030 Composed by Carl Wittrock. Set (Score & Parts). 58 pages. Gobelin Music Publications #GOB 000449-030. Published by Gobelin Music Publications (BT.GOB-000449-030). The word ‘tsunami’ is of Japanese origin. When you look it up in a dictionary, you will find that it means ‘a great sea wave produced by submarine earth movement or volcanic eruption’. A megatsunami is the superlative of this awesome expressionof power that nature can create, and has catastrophic consequences.
When Carl Wittrock completed this composition not many such big earth movements had occurred, but since then we have become all too familiar with the disastrousconsequences which a tsunami may have. On the 26th of December 2004 a heavy seaquake took place near the Indonesian island of Sumatra. Tidal waves 10 meters in height ravaged the coastal regions of many countries for miles around. The tsunamitook the lives of thousands of people and destroyed many villages and towns.
There are more areas which run the risk of being struck by a tsunami, such as the island of La Palma, one of the Canary Islands. This island is based on oceaniccrust at a fracture zone and as such is one of nature’s time bombs. The consequences of a natural calamity like a megatsunami are immense. In the case of La Palma, the tidal wave will move in the direction of South America, where it may reach 50km inland, destroying everything on its way.
In his composition Wittrock describes an ordinary day which will have an unexpected ending. Right from the beginning there seems to be something in the air, the music creating an oppressiveatmosphere of impending disaster. Themes are interrupted, broken off suddenly, followed by silence, suggesting the calm before the storm. Suddenly a short climax (glissandi in the trombone part) indicates the seaquake, and the megatsunami isa fact. Hereafter follows a turbulent passage symbolising the huge rolling waves. After nature’s force has spent itself, resignation sets in and the composition ends with a majestic ode to nature.

Fanfare Band - Grade 4 SKU: BT.GOB-000443-120 Composed by Carl Wittrock. Score Only. 20 pages. Gobelin Music Publications #GOB 000443-120. Published by Gobelin Music Publications (BT.GOB-000443-120).

Chamber Music Flute, Piccolo, alto Flute SKU: PR.164002480 Composed by Da...(+)
Chamber Music Flute, Piccolo, alto Flute SKU: PR.164002480 Composed by Dan Welcher. Set of performance scores. With Standard notation. 23 pages. Duration 14 minutes. Theodore Presser Company #164-00248. Published by Theodore Presser Company (PR.164002480). UPC: 680160038237. This work is my second for a solo woodwind and a solo percussionist, following Firewing: The Flame and the Moth for oboe and percussion by nine years. The earlier piece followed a specific story line, and pitted the oboe against the percussionist as both adversary and lover. In Spirit Realms, my aim was not only to juxtapose the very different sounds of flute (plus alto flute and piccolo) against a large array of percussion, but also to attempt three different meditative spaces, each named for a different type of spiritual practice. The musical means of expression is very different for each of the three movements (as is the instrumentation), although they share a common scale-source: the looped pentatonic scale I have been developing over the last several years. The first movement is called Prayer Tunnel, and is named for the Eskimo practice of solo meditation within a tunnel of ice blocks. This is said to be a means of overcoming demons within, and in my musical rendering it takes the form of an unaccompanied alto flute solo. The flute begins rather angrily, full of tension, but in the course of the solo passage manages to slowly unwind. The percussionist then plays the exact same music the alto flute had played....on seven tuned cymbals. Toward the end, the alto flute re-enters, its original meditation having fused with its mirror. Kiva represents the circular, subterranean pit in which the Anasazi practiced their religion, a form of which still can be found in the Hopi tribes of the American southwest. These are not spaces for solo meditation, but rather a group meeting place in which only the sanctified are permitted. After an introductory invocation (dove call), the music begins. At first, it is flowing, in a repetitive double-five meter. It then traces several sections, with metric shifts forcing the pulse to race faster and faster, until it halves itself in the coda and returns to the exact pulse of the beginning. The flutist here uses the C flute, and the percussionist plays on both pitched (marimba) and unpitched instruments (various drums and struck sources). Zendo is the meditation room used by Zen Buddhists. My music begins with another invocation (wind chimes, temple cup gongs, and temple blocks), then moves on to a slow subject stated by the flute. The subject is taken up by the vibraphone, and after several modulations and tempo changes, the flutist takes up the piccolo. The music continues higher and higher, and faster and faster (Zen meditation is NOT all about becoming lost!) until it breaks free at the very end. The percussionist is put through his paces in this movement, having to reach a staggering number of instruments in a short time. Spirit Realms was commissioned by, and is dedicated to, the Armstrong Duo. -- Dan Welcher. $75.00 - See more - Buy onlinePre-shipment lead time: 2 to 3 weeks

Harp SKU: FG.55011-885-0 Composed by Lotta Wennäkoski. Classical, contemporary. Part. Fennica Gehrman #55011-885-0. Published by Fennica Gehrman (FG.55011-885-0). Whizzing, growling and rattling – you can produce all kinds of sounds with the harp, not just the fairy-tale shimmer and glissandos that you first think of. Lotta Wennäkoski composed Sigla for harp and orchestra (2021-2022) in close collaboration with the harpist Sivan Magen, to whom the concerto is dedicated. The title of the concerto, Sigla, has different meanings in different languages. In Italian, it means a jingle; in Icelandic, it means sailing; and in Tagalog, spoken in the Philippines, it means vivaciousness or enthusiasm. Wennäkoski has not specifically referenced these in the movements of the concerto as such, but she does allow that the various meanings of the word may be identified with the music according to the listener’s perception.
The recording of the work (Ondine ODE1420-2) was premiered with the Gramophone award as the the best release in the contemporary category in October 2023.
This product is the solo part.
The orchestral material is available for hire from the publisher.

| Sambuca Sonata Theodore Presser Co.
Chamber Music Flute, Piano, Viola SKU: PR.11440719S Composed by Nathan Cu...(+)
Chamber Music Flute, Piano, Viola SKU: PR.11440719S Composed by Nathan Currier. Set of Score and Parts. With Standard notation. 44 pages. Duration 11 minutes, 30 seconds. Theodore Presser Company #114-40719S. Published by Theodore Presser Company (PR.11440719S). UPC: 680160011087. 8.5 x 11 inches. Sambuca, which most people know today as a licorice-flavored liqueur, was the name the Greeks gave to a kind of sharp, shrill-sounding harp, of Eastern, possibly Jewish origin. The Greeks then gave this same name to a wooden flute made from the elder bush, and in the middle ages it was also associated with the viol, at least to the extent that the Hurdy-gurdy, an instrument shaped like a viol and played by means of a rotating wheel, was sometimes called a Sambuca rotata. Thus, the word Sambuca is tied up with the ancestors - in each case, ancestors of ow birth, as it were - of the modern harp, flute, and viola. Somehow, the present-day association with alcohol seems very meet, in that a certain objectionable quality seems to have gone with the name - in 1545 one George Ascham wrote, This I am sure... all maner of pypes, barbitons, sambukes... be condemned of Aristotle. The word Sambucistria - for a female Sambuca player - was used by Plutarch and others to evoke a feeling of foreign-inspired decadence [Grove's Dictionary of Musical Instruments, 1984]. Currier's work is truly a Sambuca sonata. Written for the three Sambuca instruments, Currier has first of all seemingly endeavoured to make the harp part particularly Sambuca-like (i.e., sharp and shrill) with its many nail and xylophonic effects, but more importantly, has used musical material that corresponds to the low-brow, somewhat Dionysian, indeed, today even Bacchanalian implication of the name - thus, rock music seems to inspire a great deal Currier's work [the Samba, an appropriately Bacchanalian Brazilian Carnival dance, in duple meter with syncopations, while apparently having no etymological connection to Sambuca, might seem to be musically involved, too]. The Sambuca which lies behind this rather drunken piece is probably the only musical instrument which became a model for an instrument of war; one Craxton wrote in 1489 that Sambuce is an engyn whiche is made in manere of a harpe able to perce a walle. But whether talking of the modern liqueur or the ancient instrument condemned of Aristotle and mentioned four times in the Book of Daniel, it is a shame that Debussy - inspired by the Dionysian side of classical culture (as in Prelude a l'apres-midi d'un faune) - seems to have remained ignorant Sambuca, a word which to some extent must lie behind all works for this wonderful instrumentation which he invented, and which I might seem to have striven unconsciously, equally ignorant, to make the sole basis of Currier's work - until, having completed this piece, written for harpist Marie-Pierre Langlamet, and rummaging around for a title, I chanced upon it in an old dictionary. $34.99 - See more - Buy onlinePre-shipment lead time: 2 to 3 weeks

Score Orchestra SKU: HL.14030970 For Chamber Ensemble Score. Composed by Bent Sorensen. Music Sales America. Classical. Score. Composed 2002. 82 pages. Edition Wilhelm Hansen #WH30142. Published by Edition Wilhelm Hansen (HL.14030970). ISBN 9788759805725. Work for Chamber dating from 1988. The composer writes: MINNEWATER means 'love water'/'love lake', but when I began to compose the work, this direct meaning of the title was not very important to me. Rather the word itself had a magical sound. Later on, however, it occurred to me that the piece was full of mumbling swells and swarming cascades, and the sensation of water is perhaps most perceptible towards the end where lots of falling water movements are felt behind the emphasized rhythmic surface. Falls that moreover, quite literally at the end, sinks into the water. MINNEWATER has a subtitle: THOUSANDS OF CANONS, which directly refers to a compostion technique where all layers and elements in the music constantly are imitated; possibly waves imitating each other? The mudded and impalpable beginning of the work takes its starting point in one of my earlier pieces, the sextett LES TUCHINS (in fact the first 5 or 6 pages of the two pieces are quite identical but in MINNEWATER it is all 'blown up' to a larger ensemble). Quite soon, however, the thread to LES TUCHINS is cut off and it goes its own way; From the mumbling in the start - through swarming trills and pointilistic staccato movements - to a long section where the trumpet appears as a soloist and in a way conducts the movements of the remaining ensemble right to the rhythmic final section of the piece. MINNEWATER was commissioned by the Danish Radio for the German Ensemble Modern. $59.95 - See more - Buy onlinePre-shipment lead time: 2 to 3 weeks
