Chamber Music Anvil, Bass Drum, Crotales, Glockenspiel, Gong, Percussion, Suspen...(+)
Chamber Music Anvil, Bass Drum, Crotales, Glockenspiel, Gong, Percussion, Suspended Cymbal, Tam-tam, Triangle, Tubular Bells, Vibraphone, Violin SKU: PR.114410790 Composed by Daniel Dorff. Set of performance scores. With Standard notation. Composed 1993. 32+32 pages. Duration 13 minutes. Theodore Presser Company #114-41079. Published by Theodore Presser Company (PR.114410790). ISBN 9781491112687. UPC: 680160015580. 9 x 12 inches. THREE MYSTERIES OF NAGASAKI was inspired by the eerie darkness and ambiguous bells of the oldest Western church in Japan. Dorff’s program note describes impressions of his visit to Nagasaki while withholding any explanation of the three movements. The 13-minute work is a duo for violin and one percussionist, with an array of pitched and unpitched ringing metallic instruments plus bass drum. THREE MYSTERIES OF NAGASAKI was inspired by the ambiguous bells of the oldest Western church in Japan. In an island nation that used to thrive on isolation from the rest of the world, Nagasaki has long been a vulnerable exception. From the 16th through 19th centuries, it was Japan’s only international port, open to Portuguese and Dutch traders. From this sole crossroads, Christianity (along with European food, flowers, and language) began flowing into the otherwise insular culture. The US Navy’s presence in the 1800s added to Nagasaki being Japan’s exposed Achilles’ heel, which may be why Puccini’s Madama Butterfly is set in this city, with Cho-Cho-San’s vulnerability symbolizing the risk of openness to Western influence.I’ve had occasion to visit Nagasaki, and have never felt so haunted. Aside from the unspeakable atrocity of 1945 and the lasting presence of that horror, there also remains a mysterious air of not really being in pure Japan, or in the present day. Nowhere was this more obvious than within the Ōura Basilica, the earliest Christian church built in Japan. Decades after visiting the basilica, I still recall its oddly distorted and slowly pealing bells, and timeless incense floating in relative darkness. The mysterious bells have stayed with me both for their own sonority, and as a subconscious reminder of everything Nagasaki is and was.Composed for a violinist-percussionist couple who ended a decades-long relationship just as I completed the work (and never performing it), it was originally called simply THREE MYSTERIES; I couldn’t make a direct reference in the title because it felt too raw. Looking back years later, the updated title THREE MYSTERIES OF NAGASAKI seems to ask more questions than it answers. $21.99 - See more - Buy onlinePre-shipment lead time: 1 to 2 weeks

Concert Band/Harmonie - Grade 3 SKU: BT.DHP-1135402-140 Composed by Satoshi Yagisawa. Concert and Contest Collection CBHA. Score Only. Composed 2013. 24 pages. De Haske Publications #DHP 1135402-140. Published by De Haske Publications (BT.DHP-1135402-140). 356 X 267 inches. English-German-French-Dutch. Satoshi Yagisawa has lived in Ichikawa City, Chiba Prefecture in Japan since he was in elementary school. Around Christmas time every year in Ichikawa City, seven Chiba high school bands hold a joint concert. For the 20th anniversary the composer was asked to write a piece to be performed to close the concert. This piece was first performed in 2010 by Tadashi Yoshida, conductor and close friend of Satoshi Yagisawa, with a combined wind orchestra from Chiba Prefectural Kokubun High School, Chiba Prefectural Ichikawa Nishi High School, Chiba Prefectural Matsudo Mutsumi High School, Chiba Prefectural Matsudo Akiyama High School, Chiba Prefectural Matsudo Yakiri High School,Chiba Prefectural Funabashi Nishi High School and Chiba Prefectural Shiroi High School. The title was chosen from suggestions submitted by participating students. Dream Cruise was chosen by Satomi Otsu, a junior in Chiba Prefectural Matsudo Mutsumi High School Wind Orchestra. The composer skillfully scored this piece and created the chorus part so that all the hundreds of students could participate in the performance. This version has been revised so it can be played without the chorus part.
$36.95 - See more - Buy onlinePre-shipment lead time: 2 to 3 weeks

ISBN 9790004212820. 11.5 x 16.5 inches. ,,to rub). (Helmut Lachenmann, 2003)

SKU: PR.415411560 Composed by Stacy Garrop. Study Score. With Standard notation. 66 pages. Duration 19 minutes. Theodore Presser Company #415-41156. Published by Theodore Presser Company (PR.415411560). UPC: 680160642946. 9 x 12 inches. The Mythology Suite consists of three movements of my Mythology Symphony, which I arranged for large wind ensemble. The arrangements of The Lovely Sirens and Penelope Waits were commissioned by James Ripley and Carthage College for the Carthage Wind Orchestra's 2017 Japan tour. I added Pandora Undone to complete the set; Stephen Squires and the Chicago College of Performing Arts gave the premiere of the entire Suite in February 2017. Movement 1: The Lovely Sirens The Sirens were sea nymphs, usually pictured as part woman and part bird, who lived on a secluded island surrounded by rocks. Their enchanting song was irresistible to passing sailors, who were lured to their deaths as their ships were destroyed upon the rocks. The Lovely Sirens presents three ideas: the Sirens' beautiful song, an unfortunate group of sailors whose course takes them near the island, and the disaster that befalls the sailors. The sailors' peril is represented by the Morse code S.O.S. signal (three dots, three dashes, and three dots--represented musically by short and long rhythms). The S.O.S. signal grows increasingly more insistent and distressed as it becomes obvious that the sailors, smitten with the voices of the Sirens, are headed for their demise. Movement 2: Penelope Waits This quiet movement represents Queen Penelope, the faithful wife of Odysseus, as she patiently waits twenty years for her husband's return from fighting the Trojan Wars. Penelope herself is represented as an oboe. She is accompanied by the ensemble as she keeps at bay the suitors who wish to marry her and inherit her riches. Movement 3: Pandora Undone This movement is, in turns, both lighthearted and serious. The music depicts a young, naive Pandora who, while dancing around her house, spies a mysterious box. She tries to resist opening it, but her curiosity ultimately gets the best of her. When she cracks the lid open and looks inside, all evils escape into the world. Dismayed by what she has done, she looks inside the box once more. She discovers hope still in the box and releases it to temper the escaped evils and assuage mankind's new burden. Published by Theodore Presser Company (PR.114415540). UPC: 680160609444. 9 x 12 inches. For clarinetist Ayako Neidich and the NY Licorice Ensemble (a true musical bridge between New York and Japan), Ewazen has refashioned two of his fanfares, originally scored for other forces. An orchestral tone poem, Fanfare from Monument to Color and Light, was remade as a trumpet ensemble, and now finds new life as clarinet choir. His Front Range Fanfare, originally for brass ensemble, brings its grandeur and majesty to clarinets. These new settings bring a celebration by Ewazen to better clarinet choirs. For advanced performers. $95.00 - See more - Buy onlinePre-shipment lead time: 2 to 3 weeks

Breitkopf and Haertel #BV 402. Published by Breitkopf and Haertel (BR.BV-402). ISBN 9783765104022. 6.5 x 9.5 inches. Eisler for the Present Age In 2012, the 50th anniversary of Hanns Eisler's death was the occasion at an international symposium for a review of the current Eisler research. The range of topics in this volume of more or less extensively revised symposium papers covers the analysis of various compositional and aesthetic aspects, especially from film music, via the historiographically-oriented survey of the stages of the composer's biography (in Denmark, USA, Austria, Germany) to the general consideration of Eisler's position in the past and the present. Investigating the history of the Eisler reception in Japan turns out to be real virgin territory. $70.95 - See more - Buy onlinePre-shipment lead time: 3 to 4 weeks
