The music is presented as a performing score. Where no clef is given, play with as if with a clef as directed in the score text (see Minute two). Transposing instruments play as written and do not transpose. It is allowed, however, for special transposed parts to be created in order to ensure an even distribution of the intended chordal harmony where this would otherwise be missing. There should be a few seconds silence between each of the four sections. During Minute one players other than the soloist strum their fingers rapidly on the body of their instruments, chairs etc., very quietly - producing an almost imperceptible dull sound (not 'tinny' or 'bright'). Programme Note: 'Four Minutes - Four Daydreams' was composed by Paul Burnell in 2000. It was first performed by the London CoMA Ensemble, conductor Simon Foxley, at Morley College, London on the 29th October 2000. The piece has four distinct sections, each 1 minute long. Like an extended daydream each section is progressively more developed. The piece was included on the 2013 album 'Cabbage Heads'.

The pitch content is based on O Holy Night, the well-known Christmas carol composed by Adolphe Adam in 1847. The difficulty level in terms of executing notes and rhythms is medium-easy. At the same time, the dynamic planning and control of the crescendo requires considerable musical judgment. All of the keyboard parts require only two mallets; some passages unfold as double stops. Mallets for the marimbas should be chosen to maximize the blend of individual parts into a unified chord. There are no key changes, or mallet and hand independence. Marimba could be substituted for the Bass Xylo. The tempo marking and dynamics are suggested ones only. Arranged in the key of F Major, the Bb has been written as accidentals rather than as a key signature to make it an easier read for less advanced performers.

Every day I was commuting from Skurup to Båstad and every day I was struck by Båstads almost continental beauty; I felt like I was in France. Cobble stone roads, houses with towers and that mountain ridge close to the ocean...One day on the train, I ran into three French girls on holiday.Patiently they listened to my ideas and kindly helped me translate the tempo markings to French. The piece begins with us falling to sleep. The marimbas rocks us slowly In Dream.After sudden movements in the vibraphone we are happily strolling on the cobble stones, sun shining and children riding their bikes across the streets not noticing the rocky ride.Bells chime in the distance and the world – or the dream – vanish. As sudden as it started it is gone.The dissonance of the beginning is now gone and our sleep is peaceful and calm - or is it..? Originally a solo piece for Marimba dedicated to Kasper Grøn.Thanks to Camille, Carole, Raphaëlle for the help with the French.

For a moment the initial passage returns before a climax in A major. The finale concludes as the day ends with the original passage returning in 7/4 time as the business closes for the day. The experience would be marked by a kaleidoscope of varying styles from pop, avant-garde, or jazz. Is it mainstream - probably not. But, the artist is definitely recognizable (as a name), appearing across multiple genres. As a source of background to her song ‘Come to Me,’ I borrowed a palindromic idea exploited by Radiohead in their ‘Pyramid song...’ if we truly expand a swing feel to a twelve-eight meter and extend the pattern across two measures - the eighth notes would provide a total of twenty-four possibilities - and as in this work you get four, five, six, five, four a palindrome on 45654 that (when added) equals twenty-four.This version is not a cover. Fragments of musical elements are translated into the ensemble. While occasionally exhibiting moments of dance, the composition evolves into a more profound expression, capitalizing on the musical possibilities of a percussion ensemble. Composed in 1999, New Resources is one of the few pieces from my undergraduate that still sees the light of day. In 2004, my collaborative partner Lisa Rie used the music to accompany a dance piece entitled Delta Eco, which celebrates the rich flora and fauna of California’s San Joaquin River Delta. New Resources has had performances throughout California and Arizona, and in 2005 it was played by William Moersch and the University of Illinois Percussion Ensemble. ~A.A.

They still worked together - and built this song in a tiny warehouse using whatever technology they could get their hands on. In a day where most music was produced in the large studios backed by industry money - they pioneered a hit without the big studio. Securing a loan, they procured essential equipment—a compact setup comprising an 8-track tape recorder, mixer, effects processors, synthesizers, a drum computer, and a compact dynamic microphone. Some of the emotions from their lives went into the song - a fresh start on the heels of emotional events. Reflecting on that period, Lennox candidly remarked, “I was feeling very vulnerable. The song was an expression of how I felt: hopeless and nihilistic.â€This version is not a cover. Fragments of musical elements are translated into the ensemble. While occasionally exhibiting moments of dance, the composition evolves into a more profound expression, capitalizing on the musical possibilities of a percussion ensemble.
