Piano Solo - Level 3 - Digital Download SKU: A0.905628 Composed by David Perkins. Concert,Contemporary,Holiday,Wedding. Score. 7 pages. David Perkins #5718135. Published by David Perkins (A0.905628). Originally a setting of a poem by Elizabeth Barrett Browning, this piece arranged for piano solo, has become a wordless song in its own right. The somewhat cryptic title is a line taken from the original poem. This and seven other pieces forms a suite of pieces entitled As Wordless as the Windy Sky: 1 Can Those Boats Be Only Rooftops?2 The Sandy Path That Leads Me Down3 A Kingdom of its Own4 As Wordless as the Windy Sky5 Let Me Count the Ways6 That Quite Unprecedented Three7 Screened From the Public Gaze8 When the Long Trick's OverTogether they create a broadly biographical sequence from the imagination of childhood, through holidays, religion, love, the pleasures of the middle years to the inevitability of old age. The whole suite of music is available on SMP in one book As Wordless as the Windy Sky (Book) or as separate pieces.

Irish National Anthem (Unofficial) for String Orchestra

String Orchestra - Intermediate - Digital Download Composed by trad. Arranged by Keith Terrett. 20th Century, European, Patriotic. Score, Set of Parts. 10 pages. Published by Music for all Occasions
Londonderry Air arranged for String Orchestra.<br> <br> A big band version of the song is used as the theme for The Danny Thomas Show (a.k.a. Make Room For Daddy).<br> <br> "Danny Boy" was used to represent Northern Ireland at the start of the London 2012 Olympics opening ceremony, sung by a choir of children on the Giant’s Causeway.<br> <br> On November 25, 2014, the Vancouver Canucks used the song in honor of the recently deceased Pat Quinn, who played and worked in many executive capacities for the team.<br> <br> There are various theories as to the true meaning of "Danny Boy". Some listeners have interpreted the song to be a message from a parent to a son going off to war or leaving as part of the Irish diaspora.<br> <br> The 1918 version of the sheet music included alternative lyrics ("Eily Dear"), with the instructions that "when sung by a man, the words in italic should be used; the song then becomes "Eily Dear", so that "Danny Boy" is only to be sung by a lady". In spite of this, it is unclear whether this was Weatherly’s intent.<br> <br> Why the name Londonderry Air? Londonderry and Derry refer to the same place, a city in the north of Ireland, and also to the surrounding county. Supposedly the city of Derry was founded by St. Colmcille, although archaeological evidence shows that people were living there thousands of years earlier. There is an excellent museum in the city, which is worth a visit if you want to find out more. The name of the city was actually "Doire", corrupted to "Derry" by people who can’t pronounce Irish. It thought to derive from an Irish root meaning "oak tree".<br> <br> Moving quickly along in history, about a millenium later the government of England was having a difficult time colonizing Ireland because of the fierce and warlike clans living there, especially in the north of the country, Ulster. The monarchs of England, almost all of whom were notorious cheapskates, were continually looking about for ingenious ways to conquer places without actually having to put up the money themselves, or run the risk of unpopularity if they lost. In the case of Ireland, some of these schemes of the "Brish gummit" (as it is termed nowadays in Ulster) are still producing unfortunate long-term consequences.<br> <br> In 1608, King James I gave the city of Derry to the City of London corporation. I guess the deal could be summed up by saying that if the City of London could figure out a way to chase all the inhabitants out of Derry, they would be allowed to keep the loot, minus a percentage for the King of course. If they lost, well too bad. In celebration of this historic agreement, the name of Derry was officially changed to Londonderry. (For further information, check out the Northern Ireland Tourist Board’s History of Derry.)<br> <br> The linguistic outcome of all this today is that, if you think that King James’s deal with the City of London was a good idea, you call both the city and county "Londonderry". If you do, you are probably a supporter of the Unionist movement that seeks to keep Ulster a part of the United Kingdom. If you think it was a bad idea, you call both "Derry", and you are probably a supporter of the Irish Nationalist cause. Or you might just be someone who thinks it’s confusing for kings to be going around changing the names of places all the time for no good reason.<br> <br> You can find plenty of discussion about the political side of the question elsewhere, but here let’s look at the musical side. We have an air, collected in county Derry/Londonderry, and it doesn’t have a title. What do we call it?<br> <br> If you were a proper Victorian, there’s no way you were going to call it the Londonderry Air, much less the Derry Air, because of the improper sentiments that these titles might suggest. My parents tell me that in their youth in Australia, it was usually called the Air from County Derry. (This would, I suppose, support Winston Churchill’s theory that Australia was inhabited by "convicts and Irishmen".)<br> <br> My mother also sends the following information, referring to an arrangement of the tune by the Australian composer Percy Grainger:<br> <br> Just another note about Danny Boy, that I grew up in Australia believing to be the Air from County Derry. We were looking through some LP’s last night (back to vinyl yet!) and found a Mercury Wing Classical Favorites stereo LP SRW18060, COUNTRY GARDENS and other favorites by Percy Grainger {played by} Eastman-Rochester Pops, Frederick Fennell, conducting. The cover notes included the following: "Irish Tune from County Derry was harmonised in memory of Irish childhood friends in Australia." Considered by many to be Grainger’s masterpiece of harmonization, the tune was collected many years ago by Miss Jane Ross of New Town, Limavady, Ireland. Grainger has set it for many instrumental combinations. So there’s another variant on the name for it. It doesn’t say who wrote the notes, but the bits in quotes for each of the works on the record are Grainger’s original comments.<br> <br> The references to Londonderry Air that I’ve seen don’t go back any earlier than the late 1930s. For example, the Glenn Miller Orchestra recorded Danny Boy (Londonderry Air) in February 1940. Bing Crosby’s version was recorded in July 1941 (reference). (So many different things I could check up on!) Londonderry was an important American naval base during WWII, but the US hadn’t come into the war in 1940.<br> <br> Need an anthem fast? They are ALL in my store! All my anthem arrangements are also available for Orchestra, Recorders, Saxophones, Wind, Brass and Flexible band. If you need an anthem urgently for an instrumentation not in my store, let me know via e-mail, and I will arrange it for you FOC if possible! keithterrett@gmail.com<br> <br> Contact Publisher Related Scores

Small Ensemble Cello,Violin - Level 3 - Digital Download SKU: A0.749209 Composed by Traditional Carol. Arranged by HELEN MARPLE-HORVAT. Christian,Christmas,Praise & Worship,Sacred. Score and parts. 15 pages. Helen Marple-Horvat #3557715. Published by Helen Marple-Horvat (A0.749209). https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BCM1oh2jWA0 I have always loved the gorgeous false relations in the harmony of this carol and enjoyed singing it in choirs down the years, as well as organising choral groups to sing it. I have included various harmonisations of the wonderful tune and a short contrapuntal development section in the middle to add some interest. The clip is from the development section. If you would like to watch a video of a professional quartet playing my arrangement on Youtube, look up my channel by typing Skinny Black Dogs, Capriccio Quartet, The Angel Gabriel. In this version there is a viola playing theViolin 3 part but the differences are very small. Mostly I had to put the Violin part up an octave when it went below the lowest string but otherwise the harmony is much the same. The quartet play with few open strings, lots of vibrato and slurred bows. That would be fine for Grade 5 players and above. However, open strings and one note per bow could still sound good, and the violin in the high positions could easily be played down an octave. All the double stopping includes an open string but could be divided between parts in a string orchestra. If teachers want to buy this for a young string orchestra or quartet, drop me a line on Facebook and I will upload an easier version to the site for you, with some small changes. The key is easy for strings and with a bit of rehearsal, the counting can be mastered. Have fun, and let me know if you have performed it!

String Quartet String Quartet - Digital Download SKU: A0.749200 Composed by Traditional. Arranged by HELEN MARPLE-HORVAT. Christmas,Classical,Sacred,Spiritual. Score and parts. 13 pages. Helen Marple-Horvat #3362307. Published by Helen Marple-Horvat (A0.749200). www.youtube.com/watch?v=BCM1oh2jWA0 I have always loved the gorgeous false relations in the harmony of this carol, and enjoyed singing it in choirs down the years, as well as organising choral groups to sing it. I have included various harmonisations of the wonderful tune, and a short contrapuntal development section in the middle to add some interest. If you would like to watch a video of a professional quartet playing my arrangement on Youtube, look up my channel by typing Skinny Black Dogs, Capriccio Quartet, The Angel Gabriel. They play with lots of vibrato, few open strings, and slurred bows. That would be fine for Grade 5 players and above. However, open strings and one note per bow could still sound good, and the violin in the high positions could easily be played down an octave. All the double stopping includes an open string but could be divided between parts in a string orchestra. If teachers want to buy this for a young string orchestra or quartet, drop me a line on Facebook, or below the performance on my Youtube Channel, and I will upload an easier version to the site for you, with some small changes. The key is easy for strings and with a bit of rehearsal, the counting can be mastered. Have fun, and let me know if you have performed it!

String Orchestra - Level 4 - Digital Download SKU: A0.954489 By Lee Greenwood. By Austin Roberts and Kerry Chater. Arranged by Jon Thingvall. Country. Score and parts. 10 pages. Jon Thingvall #4742269. Published by Jon Thingvall (A0.954489). Time: 5 minThis piece contains the following: double stops; triple-, and quadruple-stop broken chords, septuplet octave runs, sul tasto, and solo passages for each instrument. The YouTube video scrolls through the score, so, before you purchase it, you can get a great idea of how suitable this piece would be for your ensemble. In this arrangement, while borrowing something old (sotto voce quotes from Pachelbel's famous Canon in D (here in G)), the something new 80s Pop/Country sound blends with the classical into a timeless tapestry. I've always thought of this classic by Lee Greenwood as the perfect song for a wedding or an anniversary, but, in reality, its lyrics are so grateful and sincere that it could just as well grace a birthday, a memorial, or any other sentimental, friendly gathering.Due to unforeseeable technical problems, parts do not always print to PDF correctly, so please let me know of any problems with printed parts, and I can send you an updated version. Guitar - Intermediate - Digital Download SKU: ZY.DO-1522 Composed by Francis Bebey. Arranged by Ingrid Riollot. Score. 5 pages. Les Editions Doberman-Yppan (digital) #DO 1522. Published by Les Editions Doberman-Yppan (digital) (ZY.DO-1522). Son originalité continue de résonner dans le monde entier depuis son décès à la fin du mois de mai 2001.Francis Bebey was born in Douala in July 1929, into a large family where his father, a pastor, struggled to feed his children. But Francis had the opportunity to go to school. Admiring his elder brother, Marcel Eyidi Bebey, he educated himself, distinguished himself, and eventually received a scholarship to go and take his baccalaureate in France. We approached the end of the 1950s when he arrived in La Rochelle. More than ever, in this France where Africans were looked at with curiosity, condescension, or disdain, Francis relied on his intellectual resources. A diligent worker, he obtained his Baccalaureate, then moved to Paris where he started English studies at the Sorbonne. One day, he knew what truly attracted him: he wanted to do radio. Francis learned his craft in France and in the USA.After working for a few years as a reporter, he was hired in 1961 as an international civil servant in the UNESCO Information Department. In parallel, Francis had always been drawn to musical creation. His very serious daytime activity didnâ??t prevent him from frequenting jazz clubs in the evenings. In Paris, the Jazz, the trendy music of that time, but also rumba and salsa attracted him. He collected records and attended numerous concerts. With his accomplice Manu Dibango, Francis took the stage and played music.Francis liked classical music since his childhood. He grew up listening to the cantatas and oratorios of Bach or Handel that his father had sung in the temple. He became passionate about the guitar, impressed by the Spanish and South American masters, and decided to learn to strum the instrument himself. He started composing guitar pieces, blending the various influences that flow through him with the traditional African music he had carried within since childhood. His approach captivated the director of the American Cultural Center (then located in the Saint-Germain neighborhood of Paris), who offered him the opportunity to perform in front of an audience. Francis gave his first guitar recital there (1963) in front of a mesmerized audience. His first solo album was released shortly thereafter.Gradually, Francis became recognized as a musician and composer. Several albums of the African guitar ambassador, as described by the press, were released. He also wrote books, to the point that his artistic career became challenging to reconcile with his career as a civil servant. In 1974, even though he had become the General Manager in charge of music at UNESCO, he took the bold leap and resigned from this prestigious institution to dedicated himself to the three activities that interested him: music, literature, and journalism. He explored the traditional musical heritage of the African continent, notably through the thumb piano sanza, and the polyphonic music of the Central African pygmies, or singing in his native language and composing humoristic songs in French!Success followed. Francis Bebey traveled the world: from France to Brazil, Cameroon to Sweden, Germany to the Carribean, or Morocco to Japan... the list of countries where he was invited to perform, gives lectures, or meets readers is very long. In addition to public recognition, he enjoyed the recognition of his fellow musicians, such as guitarist John Williams or Venezuelan Antonio Lauro, who invited him to be a part of the jury for a classical guitar competition in Caracas. His life was the journey of an African pioneer, a man rooted in his cultural heritage and carrying a message of sharing and hope for the world. His originality continues to vibrate around the world since his passing at the end of May 2001.

Small Ensemble Bassoon,Horn,Trombone,Trumpet - Level 4 - Digital Download SKU: A0.766983 Composed by Bob Delfausse. Concert,Jazz. Score and parts. 20 pages. Robert Delfausse #5322713. Published by Robert Delfausse (A0.766983). Bugs Bower composed several volumes of Bop Duets. Like so many other jazz musicians, my roommate and I spent countless hours playing through the volume we had, him on tenor sax and me on trumpet. Playing them is a masterclass in jazz phrasing, and studying them is a masterclass in the classic principles of counterpoint. It's a little bit like a Bach fugue. You start with a short catchy theme, and then let it go where it wants to go, but always building on that theme. I titled this piece Sundry Quartet because I liked bassoon for the bottom voice (trpt, hrn, trbn, and bsn), but a second trombone could just as well play the bottom. Level: advanced intermediate. Duration: 3 minutes, 12 seconds. .

Brass Band. 178 pages. David Woodcock #977843. Published by David Woodcock (A0.1394362). This is an heroic piece for Brass Band in three movements. It was the set piece for C Grade in the New Zealand National Band Contest in 2022. Programme Notes: From a young age, I was always interested in castles and history, and have visited many castles in my home country of Wales, which is sometimes called the “castle capital of the worldâ€. At one time Wales had about 600 castles, of which over 100 are still standing, either as ruins or restored buildings. The remainder have been reduced to ditches, mounds and earthworks. Visiting these amazing historically significant buildings has allowed me to reflect on their importance and purpose. In their day they were the centres of thriving communities and it is through their value as the focus of the community, that the three movements have developed their individual characteristics. The first movement depicts a large formidable castle, towering over the neighbouring lands, exuding power, authority and law, complete with noblemen and knights; the second movement describes the pastoral scenes around the castle, and the commoners going about their ordinary lives; the third demonstrates the military function of the castle which was to protect: when coming under siege, the people eventually triumph, the enemy defeated.
