Piano Solo - Level 4 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1028074 Composed by Chase Peterson. Contemporary. Score. 5 pages. Chase Peterson #3387247. Published by Chase Peterson (A0.1028074). I composed this piece at the age of 15 years old (see link below). When I wrote it, this song started off as the slow, heavily exaggerated beginning that you hear in the video. I was playing it as a joke, but then I realized that I really liked the chords I was using. As I continued playing, the song evolved to have more depth, and the piece that I had started as a joke quickly turned into one of my favorites I've ever written. Sheet music is 5 pages.Be sure to listen past the slow introduction. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wILzcKCzycA

Choral Choir,Choral,SATB Chorus divisi - Level 5 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1487909 Composed by Stanley M Hoffman. Arranged by Stanley M Hoffman. 20th Century,Classical,Jewish. 12 pages. Stanleymhoffman.com #1064840. Published by stanleymhoffman.com (A0.1487909). Composer’s Notes Anim Zemiros was composed in 1985 while I was a doctoral student of Martin Boykan at Brandeis University. The initial fugal theme was inspired by the melody from the third movement of Beethoven's Quartet in A Minor, Op. 132, also known as Heiliger Dankgesang. My theme resembles Beethoven's melody in two ways: it aurally approximates the rhythms of his theme and it also takes the contour of Beethoven's melody and inverts it, also in an approximated way. This is where the similarities to Beethoven's theme end, forAnim Zemiros is most certainly not composed in the Lydian mode! Rather, it is composed in a chromatically saturated musical language. Although Anim Zemiros may be used for the Jewish Musaf Sabbath Service, it was conceived as a concert piece. In the synagogue, this hymn is sung responsively by the cantor and congregation. The responsive nature of this hymn is what inspired the use of contrapuntal passages alternating with homophonic ones. Anim Zemiros begins with a statement of the initial fugal theme in the basses followed by a response at the interval of a fifth in the altos during which the basses present the counter theme. After a brief episode, the same thing happens in the tenor and soprano voices while the basses and altos present new contrapuntal melodies. A brief, contrasting, calm homophonic chorale passage ensues (a textural foreshadowing of both the loud climax and the hushed closing of the piece). This is followed by an extended development section (like ones from sonata-allegro movements) in which ideas from both the contrapuntal and homophonic sections are fragmented and stratified. Shifting time signatures provide added momentum to this music that leads to the homophonic climax that follows. Next comes an “anti-fugue” in which the initial fugal theme is presented backwards, as is the fugal form itself, moving from four voices, to three and finally to two. However, rather than moving to one voice as at the opening of the piece (which would have been a very predictable thing to do), the piece ends with a reminiscence of the calm homophonic chorale. Ashkenazic pronunciation was chosen over Sephardic for two reasons. I wished to have the s sound on the Hebrew letter sov rather than the t sound. In addition, Ashkenazic pronunciation is considered to be somewhat archaic since Sephardic is used in modern Hebrew. I felt this gave me artistic license to compose vocal lines containing correct or incorrect syllabic stress for purely musical effect. I deemed it necessary to state this at the outset of the score, lest one think that this composition contains errors in text-setting.Ashkenazic Transliteration An-im zemiros veshirim e-erog,Ki eilecho nafshi sa-arog.Naf-shi chimedo betseil yodecho,Loda-as kol roz sodecho,Midei daberi bichevodecho,Ho-me libi el dodecho.Ye-eravno sichi olecho,Ki nafshi sa-arog eilecho.English TranslationI will chant sweet hymns and compose songs,For my soul pants after you.My soul has longed to be beneath the shadow of your hand,To know all of your mysteries.Even while I speak of your glory,My heart yearns for your love.May my meditation be pleasant unto you,For my soul pants after you.

Bassoon,Drum Set,Piano - Level 4 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1355909 Composed by Daniel Burwasser. 21st Century,Classical,Rock. 39 pages. Head and Stem #940632. Published by Head and Stem (A0.1355909). Notes on TRIUMVIRATE The term Triumvirate goes back to the time of Julius Caesar and is roughly defined as a group of three men holding political power. In the case of this musical work, it refers to three performers holding great musical power and with equal responsibility. The idea for Triuvirate was sparked at the suggestion of colleague and composer/bassoonist, Kenneth Lieberson who has also composed a duo for bassoon and drum set. Triumvirate represents the closest artistic merger between my rock roots and classical roots that I have ever produced. As in a Triumvirate, the three parts compliment each other. The piano is the centerpiece, providing rhythmic propulsion as well as the harmonic element, the drums provide pulse, dramatic color and pure rhythmic thrust, and the bassoon supplies a prominent melodic role. The work is in the form of a fantasy based on a single one-bar riff heard at the very outset of the piece. As the work unfolds, the riff gets tossed around and is morphed into other motives and more extended episodes. A couple of slower and softer sections offer relief from the more energetic moments. The piece concludes with a prominent statement of the opening main riff. Daniel Burwasser NYC, January, 2024

Awaken the dawn (for trombone & piano)

Piano,Trombone - Level 5 - Digital Download SKU: A0.927663 Composed by Joseph Hollings. 20th Century,Contemporary. Score and part. 21 pages. Joseph Hollings Publishing #6682863. Published by Joseph Hollings Publishing (A0.927663). Awaken the dawn was written for and dedicated to Shachar Israel, Assistant Principal Trombone of the Cleveland Orchestra. Mr. Israel commissioned the work and worked closely with the composer during the composition process. The piece is demanding for both trombonist and pianist.Naming the piece was relatively straightforward, as the composer intended from the outset to use the English translation of the Hebrew word and Mr. Israel's first name 'Shachar' (in Hebrew, 'shachar' means 'dawn'). The title, taken from a passage in the Book of Psalms, is intended to represent the energy and beauty present in the few moments before dawn breaks. The piece begins with a lyrical trombone line, floating over a minimalistic piano accompaniment. Making the most of the trombone's pitch and dynamic range, the trombone becomes increasingly agitated and the piano accompaniment more fragmented. A frenetic passage leads into a fast, aggressive section before returning to the opening melodies.Mr. Israel recorded the piece in 2018 at the Oberlin Conservatory of Music in Oberlin, Ohio with the marvelous Martha Locker on piano. The recording was produced by the Grammy award-winning Elaine Martone. The recording is currently available on Amazon, Spotify and Apple Music.DURATION: approx. 7:30Joseph Hollings is a member of ASCAP. Flute Solo - Level 5 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1018922 Composed by Benjamin Harry Sajo. 20th Century,Contemporary. Individual part. 4 pages. Benjamin Sajo #6072947. Published by Benjamin Sajo (A0.1018922). Fugue: Wear Pearls and Smile is, on the outset, a fast, rambunctious adventure for many voices playing at the same time. It was conceived as a pairing for the equally vivacious second symphony of Ludwig van Beethoven–his 250th birthday is this year–but can stand on its own as one of my hardest, most challenging works to cook up.This piece is dedicated to those forced to appear positive when internally they’re falling apart. The title is inspired by a quote that’s been with me for a while, Why is it that men can be bastards and women must wear pearls and smile? by Lynn Hecht Schafren, the celebrated American jurist famous for campaigning for gender equity in courts. I’m taking the quote out of its initial context, but the power of that quote, for me, exemplifies how hard it is to maintain a sense of emotional decorum and dignity when you’re authentically a hot mess. And what’s more of a musical hot mess than a fugue? There are two realities to this piece. I’ll quote Dmitri Shostakovich, from his autobiography: The rejoicing is forced, created under threat, […] It’s as if someone were beating you with a stick and saying, ‘Your business is rejoicing, your business is rejoicing,’ and you rise, shaky, and go marching off, muttering ‘Our business is rejoicing, our business is rejoicing.’ On the one hand, it is insincere happiness, cloying perhaps. But the other truth, I’ll quote Oscar Hammerstein II, from The King and I: While shivering in my shoes / I strike a careless pose / And whistle a happy tune / And no one ever knows, / I'm afraid. I forced myself, against all impulses of my current being, to forge happiness. This piece, with its origin being a mental puzzle (fugues are puzzles), it became a construct where I could lift myself up and regain a sense of purpose. Therefore, it is invented–out of a literal need to survive–pure, genuine happiness.Future Performances: If you are interested in performing this work, please e-mail me.ABOUT THE COMPOSER: Benjamin Sajo (b. 1988) is a Canadian composer of contemporary classical music, as well as an educator. Since developing a fiercely independent creative voice upon the completion of his studies at Western (2010) and McGill Universities (2013), he continues to find inspiration from the intersection of mythology, art, and nature upon the contemporary human experience. In 2019, he released his premiere album of original music, The Great War Sextet: Canadian War Poetry with Trombone & Strings , with support from the Ontario Arts Council. Published by Benjamin Sajo (A0.1018927). Piano Solo - Level 4 - Digital Download SKU: A0.790093 Composed by Frederic Chopin. Arranged by Diamond S Music. Classical,Concert. Score. 8 pages. Diamond S Music #3569611. Published by Diamond S Music (A0.790093). POLONAISE in A MAJOR (MILITARY) Op.40 No.1 by Frédéric Chopin for PIANO SOLO. This is Chopin’s most popular and famous Piano Solos. This is the original Chopin version of the piece. During the September 1939 German invasion of Poland at the outset of World War II, Polskie Radio broadcast this piece daily as nationalistic protest, and to rally the Polish people. The A major Polonaise could hardly be more succinct, synthetic and condensed in its style and character. It has neither an introduction nor a coda, and the theme strikes one with its firmness and grace. As Jan Kleczyński put it, ‘Each note, each accent, glows with life and power’. The theme that complements the main part of the polonaise contains more of those pungent, robust sonorities, referring to the style of military music. But the pinnacle of succinctness and firmness is presented by the Polonaise’s trio, in D major. Chopin has it played energico and fortissimo. Here, too, the complementary theme brings strains of military music, evoking for many interpreters the sounds of a snare drum.
