This is a beautiful and amazingly complex piece, especially for being relatively easy to play. It starts with a classical period-type theme in F# Dorian. This sounds modal and medieval and develops moodily to a surprising lyrical and reassuring Gb major interlude, which continues a while episodically. We get one brief return to the medieval and then a pleasant landing in Ab. It all fits perfectly together. This piece ought to be standard in the intermediate piano fare. It's better than most of the usual offerings. paul-page , 06 Mar 2020 at 15:57 ↪ With much gratitude for your kind comments and detailed analysis of this piece. (Gee. Did I do all of that?) Thank you for taking the time to listen and send a note. |
