It has been written in the sonata style in that it has a medium paced movement, followed by a faster moderato movement. The "Copper" movement is in the key of D major, and modulates into the relative minor key B minor. The time signature is 6/8. There are some mordants which must be played correctly. In particular take note of the mordant in bar 11 - this unusual in that it is a sharpened second interval. The "Zinc" movement is faster and has a 4/4 time signature.
