Charles-Joseph Lebouc organised the première of this work and also played the cello part. With the composer's permission he then adapted this sonorous romance accompanied by two pianos in the original for Violoncello and onePiano.Henle are presenting the first ever Urtext edition of this popular cello work. The second Piano part is reproduced in small print thus permitting a comparison of the two versions. Two Cello parts are provided onewith markings and one without.

Like every other great 19th-century solo concerto Dvorák?s famous Cello Concerto was a collaboration between composer and virtuoso. It has long been known that certain solo passages in Dvorák?s autograph score were actually written by the cellist Hanu? Brahms completed his Cello Sonata Op.99 during the productive summer of 1886. The first public performance took place in Vienna on 24 November of the same year. Robert Hausmann played the Cello part and the composer himself was his partner at the Piano. Even though the work was generally received positively it took some years until it was fully appreciated and gained its irrevocable place in the Cello repertoire.Of particular value to the editors were the two early performance editions of the Cello Sonata Op.99 by Hugo Becker and Carl Friedberg as well as by Julius Klengel. Both cellists Becker and Klengel had aconnection to Brahms who very much admired and trusted Becker's playing and who performed together with Klengel. This edition not only incorporates Becker's and Klengel's performance markings but also Hausmann's for whom the piece was written. As such the Barenreiter edition comes with a Cello part marked with fingering and bowing by the editors which are based on the practices of Brahms' contemporaries. Nocturnes is a set of four studies for Cello and Piano by Bohuslav Martinu. These four pieces can be played for a recital or a contest separately or following one another by upper-intermediate players and above. This volume features:  I. Andantino moderato – two first parts starting with a solo of Piano including many accidentals some trills and some pizzicatos  II. Lento– starts by an exchange of sets of chords between the Piano and the Cello which is played a second time at the end of the piece  III. Moderato –starts by the Piano on its own which is the joined by the Cello  IV. Allegretto moderato – swapping from pizzicato to bow few times in the suite  Bohuslav Martinu (1890-1959) is a Czech composer and a violinist. Even though he was interested in different genres (including Romanticism Jazz and Expressionism) he wrote mainly neo-classical pieces including 16 symphonies 14 ballets and 15 operas.

Composed in 1948 the Cello Sonata or Sonata for Cello and Piano by Francis Poulenc (1899-1963) was dedicated to Pierre Fournier the French cellist. Its four movements mainly ternary are as listed below: - Allegro (Tempo di Marcia) - Cavatine - Ballabile - Finale Pierre Fournier partly helped Francis Poulenc to compose the Cello part as this latter was not a specialist of this instrument. Francis Poulenc is French composer and pianist. He also produced Piano and Chamber pieces Operas ('Dialogues des Carmélites') ballets ('Les Biches') as well as some orchestralworks.
