Piccola Musica is written for string trio and is in five short movements independent of each other apart from the ‘’tie-up’’ between numbers I and V. The texture is in the main contrapuntal though less consistently so than in Maconchy's Quartets and the mood is more relaxed. The five ‘’piccoli movimenti’’ are: I Allegro moderato II Andante III Moderato IV Poco lento V Allegro moderato- meno mosso-allegro moderato: in its end is its beginning.

Phantasmagoria for Violin Violoncello and Piano was composed by Bent Sørensen in 2007. First performance by Trio con Brio 12 Aug 2007 in Roskilde Denmark.Programme note:My Piano Trio “Phantasmagoria” is in five movements. It all began with the fifth movement which originally was a tiny piece for cello and piano. After re-composing this little piece for piano trio I worked composed backwards – The fourth movement – third movement - and I finally got to the beginning of the piece. It all begins with the violin – solo – heavily muted but aggressive and gradually the cello andthe piano enter as shadows of the violin. The first movement ends in a dark shadow of an aria from my opera “Under the Sky”. All five movements are full of shadows of all kinds. Shadows of fragments and traces of movements appear in other movements. Music voices instruments appear behind each other as a play of shadows. “Shadow play” was the first title on my mind but a shadow play can be more physical – the shadow can come alive – alive behind the shadows. Phantasmagoria is a shadow play in darkness where contours of persons and music voices and instruments - create adventures behind each other. “Phantasmagoria” was commissioned by Franz Schubert Society Denmark and dedicated to Trio con Brio Copenhagen. Symphonies. Par RAMEAU JEAN-PHILIPPE. This edition unites all the purely instrumental and dance numbers from one of Rameau?s most popular operas, along with those from his last one-act opéra-ballet ?Io?, which was left unfinished at the time of his death. ?Platée? is the setting of a libretto by Jacques Autreau that Rameau arranged to be adapted for his own purposes, especially with regard to comic effects. In grotesque form, it shows Jupiter curing his wife Juno of her jealousy by feigning a marriage of love with the ugly swamp nymph Platée. Faced with such a ludicrous rival, Juno is forced to admit that her suspicions were unfounded. The opera was premièred in Versailles in 1745 for the wedding of the Dauphin Louis and Maria Theresia of Spain. The performance was a fiasco, however, for the coarse comedy and bizarre characters were deemed inappropriate by the wedding audience. It was not until 1749 in Paris that ?Platée? achieved its breakthrough, becoming Rameau?s greatest triumph to date. Another version with an altered text was performed from 1754 on. The plot of the fragmentary ?Io? deals with the amorous relations between the nymph Io and Jupiter in the guise of the shepherd Hylas, who becomes a rival of Apollo, disguised as Philemon. Now the inventive and richly varied orchestral numbers from this cruelly comical bonfire of the vanities can be presented in concert with greater flexibility. / Date parution : 2022-04-05/ Répertoire / Ensemble de Chambre

Le Carnaval des animaux. Written in March 1886 as a humorous occasional work for the traditional carnival concert organized by his cellist friend Charles-Joseph Lebouc, the Carnival of the Animals was so successful that Saint-Saëns banned performances and publication soon afterwards. He was worried that this ?grand zoological fantasy? - consisting of 14 short individual pieces for eleven instruments - might overshadow his serious works. Yet only five months after the composer?s death, it appeared in print after all, beginning its worldwide victory march - in its original setting as well as in numerous arrangements. Thus, the Carnival did in fact arguably become the most popular work by this French composer and, owing to its musical originality, it is also a favourite in music lessons or for school orchestra performances. for flute clarinet percussion piano violin and cello-Subtilior Lamento is a piece that draws some inspiration from the music of the so-called ‘Ars Subtilior’ movement of the fourteenth century. This early music features rhythmic complexities linear ornamentation and harmonic intricacy. In my piece I use canon to create textures that are at constant rhythmic unrest. Harmonies arise out of linear lines: lines I constructed to work in defining my harmonic world. Das Trio mobile ist ein Stück virtuoser Kammermusik, das aus fünfzehn abwechslungsreichen Abschnitten besteht, in denen vielfältig differenzierte Bewegungsimpulse das Geschehen ständig im Fluss halten. Die nötige Abwechslung garantieren freilich die differenzierten Ausdruckswerte zwischen Phrasen von zarter Lyrik bis hin zu Ausbrüchen unverhohlen erregter Emotionalität. Den gleichsam gerechten Ausgleich zwischen der von ihrer Lage her dominierenden Flöte und den beiden anderen Instrumenten schaffen kadenzartige Einschübe, in denen sich Violoncello und Bratsche solistisch profilieren können. Den musikalischen Zusammenhalt über alle Vielgestaltigkeit hinweg garantierenthematische und formale Bezüge, die zwischen einzelnen Abschnitten herrschen, aufgrund deren das Trio mobile einen spiralförmigen Verlauf zu nehmen scheint.
