Die große spätromantische Sonate von Richard Rößler (1880-1962) stellt eine wesentliche Bereicherung der Literatur dieser Epoche dar. Im 1. Satz herrscht eine heitere Atmosphäre, in der der Charakter der Flöte bereits zum Ausdruck kommt. Ihm folgt ein tiefgründiges Adagio in c-moll, eine Tonart, die in der Flötenliteratur nur äußerst selten vorkommt. Im 3. Satz, ein Intermezzo, ergeht sich die Flöte in ausschweifender Melodik und das Klavier wird rastlos schnell. Der 4. Satz stellt an beide Spieler sehr hohe Anforderungen. Ein mystisches Grave leitet den Satz ein, um dann im hellen E-Dur ein populäres Thema vorzustellen, das immer wieder auf das Raffinierteste verändert wird. Dem gegenüber gestellt wird ein zweites Thema, das an eine Opernarie erinnert. Beide Themen werden kunstvoll miteinander verknüpft und das Werk endet furios. / Flûte Et Piano
