La première édition ne parut à Londres qu'en 1948, sans doute dans une large mesure sans la participation du compositeur. Car aussi bien la partition imprimée que les parties d'orchestre laissentapparaître un grand nombre de fautes. Certaines d'entre elles sont connues depuis longtemps, d'autres ne furent découvertes par Hansjörg Schellenberger qu'en procédant à la comparaison avec le manuscrit autographe de la partition et de la particelle. Le hautboïste de renommée mondiale présente ainsi ce concerto en partition et en réduction de piano pour la première fois en tant qu'édition Urtext de la maison Henle! pour hautbois avec petit orchestre-In the concertante Oboe repertory this Concerto by Martinu has established itself as a work of the first order alongside the concertos of Mozart and Richard Strauss. The present edition was the occasion for returning to the work's sources mainly the composer's autograph manuscript but also among others the scores used during the lifetime of the composer by early performers such as Tancibudek and Lady Eveyn Rothwell Barbirolli. This arrangement for Oboe with a Piano reduction of the orchestral material by Yann Ollivio with critical commentary and foreword by Maurice Bourge and Guy Porat.

This title is taken from Dvorak. However. The models from which the songs are derived are clearly identifiable as are the composers from whose language they have been derived. The piece appears to be in one movement though it is in fact two with a coda. The first is French in style a sort of Waltz. It is quick and harks upon the likes of Françaix and where its idiom becomes more advanced Messaien. The other is Germanic a slow movement with echoes of German expressionism - perhaps Richard Strauss perhaps Mahler. The two movements are partly complete; the cod reconciles their differences and completes them. I see the piece as my own version of En blanc et noir.

Arrangement for oboe and piano-This Oboe Concerto from 1945 is one of the final works of Strauss' career as such it is a product of his lifetime of experience and it ranks as one of the finest works ever composed for the instrument. Arranged for Oboe with Piano accompaniment.
