During his lifetime composer Piano manufacturer and publisher Ignaz Pleyel bestowed upon the world of music an almost unimaginable number of published compositions some of them in multiple arrangements too. Of those what has remained in the repertoire today are primarily works for small chamber ensembles. Several Violin duos for instance have maintained their place among enthusiasts and students among them in particular the ?Little Duos in Increasing Difficulty ? which appeared in print in 1806 ?at the urging of several teachers? (according to the title page!). Now for the first time G. Henle Publishers presents these light performance pieces in anUrtext edition both in full score and as two individual parts to optimise use for any occasion.

In 1892 Josef Suk (1874-1935) a mere 18 years of age contributed his piece Melody to a collection of simple works for Violin (for two three or four Violins and for Violin with Piano accompaniment) called The Young Violinist published by the Prague-based firm Jos. R. Vilimek (several books issued per year).This short charming and technically undemanding piece for young violinists which is possibly more familiar to Czech audiences in arrangements for other combinations of instruments (Violin and Piano or solo Piano) was published once again in its original version for two Violins to mark the 70th anniversary of Suk's death(2005).The whereabouts of the autograph of this work is unknown; the editor of the new edition Zdenek Nouza based his revisions on the original carefully prepared edition from 1892. The bowings are Suk's own (he was an excellent violinist) but no fingerings have been added since the piece can be played by violinists of varying technical proficiency; first position alone would suffice however a fuller richer sound would be gained with greater mastery of the instrument.

Small Duets For Two Violins (Kleine Duette Fur Zwei Violinen) Op. 38 is an exciting collection of spirited and varied pieces in two volumes composed by Jacques F. Mazas (1782-1849). These duets will provide a fun challenge for accomplished violinists. In each volume both the violin 1 and violin 2 parts are included separately.

My extended version with a slow introduction was first played in Boston on 29th January 1995 by Lesley Chen and NathanSchmidt members of the New England Conservatory's Preparatory Division during their annual weekend festival of contemporary music. The melody isoriginal though clearly influenced by the music and perpetual tides of the Hebrides. The name Carlos Gardel is still inextricably linked with tango music even today. It was not just because of his numerous compositions but also because of his charismatic voice and acting talents that Gardel as artist and performer of his own works became one of the most important musical personalities of the first half of the 20th century revered as a legend far beyond his adopted home of Argentina. Composer and Pianist Diego Marcelo Collatti was born in 1976 in Rosario Argentina and has his first Piano lesson at the age of seven. From 1992-1998 he studied composition at the Universidad Nacional De Rosario as well as in Buenos Aires. Since 2000 DiegoCollatti has lived in Austria where he studied composition with Professor Detlev Muller-Siemens at the University Of Music And Performing Arts in Vienna. In summer 2001 he founded the ensemble 'Minimum Tango' with which he made his radio debut the following October in a programme featuring his own arrangement of Adios Nonino by Astor Piazzolla. This was also released on CD as part of the compilation 'Lange Nacht Der Musik 2002'. Subsequently in spring 2003 his ensemble album 'World Music Argentina' was published by Universal Edition Vienna. A concert given by 'Minimal Tango' in October 2003 has since then been broadcast numerous times on the radio. Since 2003 Diego Collatti has given regular concerts at home and abroad and in 2007 a CD of his own compositions appeared 'Mitologia Urbana'. This book contains a collection of arrangements done by Diego of classic Carlos Gardel pieces arranged specially for the Violin.
