Melodrama sentimentality and sheer cockney cheek: the Victorian era was a period of extremes. With brass bands abounding in concert halls bandstands and even street corners first the cornet and then the trumpet flourished in this heady social and musical atmosphere. This varied collection of popular Victorian solos ranges from Sullivan's The Lost Chord to Koenig's Posthorn Gallop with pieces idiomatically arranged for the intermediate trumpeter. Written in 1803 by Johann Nepomuk Hummel (1778-1837) this Trumpet Concerto in E-flat Major is a classical piece of the Trumpet repertoire. Composed in the spirit of Mozart and initially for the keyed-Trumpet it was re-discovered in 1958 by a Yale student after 150 years of inertia due to the obsolescence of the instrument for which it was made. This edition offers a transposition in E-flat Major (initially in E Major) adapted to the instruments in use today. The other instruments to be involved in this concerto are a Flute two Oboes two Clarinets two Bassoons two Horns Timpani and Strings. Hummel?s Trumpet Concerto begins with an orchestra onlyfirst movement in a sonata theme which is repeated with the inclusion of the soloist. This Allegro Spirito sounds reminiscent of the Haffner Symphony (No. 35 in D Major) by Mozart but distinguished itself by a second theme. The second movement Andante is more melodic with the trumpet which holds long notes. Finally the Rondo offers a blissful and bright end to the Concerto. Former student of Mozart Johann Nepomuk Hummel (1778-1837) was a brilliant composer pianist conductor and teacher. Evolving at the same period as Beethoveen he became as famous as him and wrote numerous concertos (for Piano Oboe Trumpet Violin and others) operas and some wind music pieces.

Joby Talbot's Trumpet Concerto Desolation Wilderness was commissioned by the Turku Philharmonic Orchestra and the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra. (Suitable for advanced players).'In Early November 2005 my family and some friends visited thehigh Sierra Nevada in Northern California. As on former trips to the area I was struck by the strange and disarming contrast between the bright sunshine perfect blue sky and warm mountain air of the Sierran autumn; and theoccasional icy chill - sudden drops of temperature when the sun vanished behind the mountains momentary glimpses through the trees of distant snow clouds over the highest peaks. Nowhere was this dichotomy more apparent than inthe vast area of forests lakes and mountains known as Desolation Wilderness. Here the twisted shapes of the aspens are testament to the destructive power of winter. Sure enough that night the first snows fell and the highmountain passes we'd just crossed were closed till spring.

Parisian born composer Roger Boutry (b. 1932) proves with his Trumpeldor for Trumpet and Piano his ability as a virtuoso musician. Boutry won many prizes during his time at the Paris Conservatoire as well as for his professional work. He has over 100 published works in which he successfully unites diverse modern and traditional trends. He was named Personality of the Year in 1989 for all of his artistic activities. This is a tricky but rewarding Trumpet Sonata by German composer Paul Hindemith. He was a distinguished viola player and an important composer during the first half of the 20th century. With leaps and very deliberate textured melody this is a dramatic and sombre work exemplifying Hindemith?s skill and instrumental sensitivity.The solo trumpet part is also included on a separate insert.

Joseph Fiala (c1748 - 1816) was a famous Czech composer and performer of his day. Mozart spoke highly of him and he held a succession of important musical posts at European courts. His Divertimento in D is a recent discovery and is published here for the first time.Written for the 'Klappentrompete' (Keyed Trumpet) it dates from the same period as Haydn's Concerto in E flat for the same instrument and represents a welcome (and technically less demanding) addition to the classical Trumpet repertory.

This delightful suite first published in 1952 is reprinted by popular demand of the many players who have enjoyed its tuneful baroque style. It begins with a stately Prelude followed by a vigorous Allegro. The slow movement explores the more soulful aspects of the trumpet's character. The finale is a lively jig.

Arrangement für Trompete und Klavier / for Trumpet and Piano-Max Reger`s well-known Romance in G major WoO II/10 was written as a supplement for the Neue Musik-Zeitung which was the recipient of works - particularly songs and piano pieces - by Reger in the years 1900 and 1901. Reger himself designatedhis Romance shortly after its publication as 'an occasional piece of the worst kind - for me!' The work was published in 1910 both in its original scoring for violin (and piano) as well as in its first arrangements for other solo instruments.

Rustic by Eugène Bozza (1905-1991) is one of the most well-known and enjoyable pieces for Trumpet and Piano published in 1955. Technically and musically challenging you must be able to master vibrato and control your instrument. The Piano score was initially written for a brass quintet.Eugène Bozza won different prizes at the Conservatoire de Paris such as the First Prizes for the Violin conducting and composition as well as the Grand Prix de Rome. He composed several operas chamber works and ballets among others.
