Seven Songs For Medium Voice-Madeleine Dring (1923-1977) was an English composer and actress. She studied Violin Voice and Composition at the Royal College of Music where her teachers included Ralph Vaughan Williams Herbert Howells and Gordon Jacob. Her Vocal works were collected and posthumously published by Thames in the 1990s. Seven Songs for Medium Voice was published in 1993 as Dring Volume 4. It is a wonderful collection of songs with various compositional dates all scored for Medium Voice and Piano accompaniment.

Mittlere Stimme / Medium Voice-As a continuation of the new Urtext edition of the Schubert lieder Walther Dürr has now edited volume five for high medium and low voices. Volumes 1 to 4 of this edition contain mainly lieder which Schubert himself saw into print (in his own choice and order) and in the fourth volume works from the last two years of his life are included. The lieder in volume 5 onwards are strictly presented in the order of Deutsch's Thematic Catalogue which means that in principle they are arranged chronologically.The lieder in volume five were composed in the years 1811 to 1814. The first 'Hagars Klage' (D 5) dated 30 March 1811 is also his first complete surviving song. Thefirst eleven lieder are evidence of his early studies (1811 1813/14). During this period Schubert immersed himself in Johann Rudolf Zumsteeg's ballads and lieder and wrote Italian arias during his composition lessons with Antonio Salieri. He also composed a single strophic song ('Klaglied' D 23) which the only one of these songs was published shortly after his death in November 1830 as op. 131 3. His apprentice work as it were was the major ballade 'Der Taucher' (D 77) which was composed between 1813 and roughly the beginning of 1815. Probably not by chance his first complete opera ('Des Teufels Lustschloss' D 84) was written at the same time. 2013 marks the centenary of Benjamin Britten’s birth and major celebrations are planned across the world making this the widest ever global celebration of a British composer. The previously unpublished Six Early Songs were written during the composer’s schooldays whilst he was studying with Frank Bridge. But even at this tender age Britten already had such accomplished works as Quatre Chansons Francaises under his belt. The songs on the one hand display Britten’s school-boyish imagination (witches owls and moths) while on the other show a more brooding side not to mention confident piano writing and an innate understanding ofvocal drama. Previously unpublished these six songs are an important new addition to the solo song repertory.

Lennox Berkeley's I Carry Your Heart With Me for medium Voice and Piano.'Sometime in 1970 I gave Lennox Berkeley a volume of poems by the American poet E. E. Cummings (1894-1962) since mysister Meriel Dickinson and I were commissioning him towrite a song-cycle for a whole programme of settings of Cummings. At the time he became involved with Chinese poetry and we were delighted with the Chinese Songs Op. 78.However a year or so later in July 1972 Berkeley did set a poem by Cummings. This was ‘i carry your heart with me’ from 95 Poems (1958) and he dedicated the song to the countertenorTay Cheng Jim.The manuscript leavesfew questions. Obviously the pedal sustains the sextuplet and triplet groups at the start and finish. It is possible that all the As in bar 32 of the left hand piano part should be flat although there are clashes like thiselsewhere. A few phrase-marks have been added on existing patterns.' - Peter Dickinson

They were written en passant in various places: in a tubercular chalet on the shores of Morecambe Bay - in a back room in Brixton - in a bedroom in Leeds - in a friend's house in St John's Wood. Some of these songs feature in his one-man show Beginnings and Endings and these eight are a varied example of that ability.

Voix Moyennes Et Piano-Recueil-Gabriel Pierné (1863-1937) was a French composer conductor and organist. Despite being predominantly remembered as a conductor his Trois Chansons De Métiers remains a recognised piece in the Vocal repertoire. Pierné studied at the Paris Conservatoire before taking up the position of chief conductor for the concert series Concerts Colonne in 1910. He remained in the post until 1933 and during this time he notably conducted the world premiere of Igor Stravinsky's The Firebird. Pierné composed for a variety of instruments. Trois Chansons DeMétiers is arranged for two vocal groups and contains many characteristics typical of the French style such as lyrical melodies a significant amount performance directions flourishes of semiquavers chromaticism and many changes in dynamics. Trois Chansons De Métiers 1) The Tailor 2) The Shoemakers and 3) The Rope Maker is a varied piece essential to the repertoire of aspiring choristers.
