As the Saxophone is commonly associated with the jazz style classical music for the instrument had always been lacking and so when Paul Bonneau published his Concerto for Alto Saxophone in 1944 it was well-received by performers of the genre. Bonneau's composition was highly versatile ranging from over fifty film scores operettas songs and other pieces for Saxophone including this Concerto. Comprising three movements a typical performance lasts about fifteen minutes. Bonneau's Concerto for Alto Saxophone contains typically French characteristics includingchromaticism and difficult technical passages. All these elements combined make for an enjoyable and challenging piece for saxophonists.

Partition pour saxophone et piano Style : contemporain Niveau : 4 Quelque temps après qu'il nous ait remis le manuscrit des Tango-Etudes ou Etudes tanguistiques, dans la version pour saxophone alto Mi b réalisée en collaboration avec Claude Delangle, en 1988, nous avons demandé à Astor Piazzolla s'il lui était possible de les harmoniser, faisant ainsi écho aux demandes des flûtistes après l'édition originale publiée pour leur instrument en 1987. En février 1989, le compositeur nous écrivait de Punta del Este (Uruguay) où il résidait momentanément avant de regagner Buenos Aires: Dear friend, finished the piano part of the Etudes tanguistiques for saxo alto and piano… Good luck to Mr Delangle and please tell him to forgive my music handwriting. I was in a hurry and could not do it better… Please let me know if you received the music. Nous avons effectivement reçu le manuscrit quelques jours plus tard… et l'avons soigneusement rangé ! La compréhension en était tellement difficile que cette édition aurait été sérieusement retardée. Aussi avons-nous publié en décembre 1989, comme il était initialement prévu, la version pour saxophone alto solo, en remettant à plus tard l'édition harmonisée. Le maître argentin connut ensuite de graves ennuis de santé, jusqu'à son décès en 1992. L'édition projetée ne devait finalement voir le jour que beaucoup plus tard, après un travail fort minutieux sur le manuscrit (voir à ce sujet la préface de Yann Ollivo).
