' Ave verum was commissioned early in 2011 by Edward Rowntree for the birthday of his father, John Rowntree, director of music at Douai Abbey in the UK. My aim was to write a piece both short and simple, suitable for regular liturgical use. There are, of course, many wonderful settings of this text already, not least those by William Byrd and Edward Elgar, both of which I sang as a boy. In this instance I felt their presence as a fellowship and, having their music in my head while writing, I was encouraged rather than daunted. Regina Coeli taken from Vladmir Godar's choral cycle Mater and arranged for accompanied SATB chorus. Godar’s large and varied output includes an oratorio works for orchestra chorus numerous chamber works educational pieces and a number of award-winning film scores. His haunting music was little known outside Eastern Europe until ECM Records released his vocal cycle Mater in 2006 which features stunning performances from Czech singer Iva Bittova. This piece is from Faber's Choral Signature Series which introduces a wealth of new or recently written choral music to choirs in search of fresh repertoire. the series draws in a rich diversity ofliving composers and includes both lighter and more challenging contemporary works offering a thrilling array of varied styles.

Novello New Choral Series- La Ballade de Jésus Christ is an arrangement of a French carol from the seventeeth century or earlier. The tune is well known as the hymn Let all mortal flesh keep silence from The English Hymnal and this arrangement was commissioned in 2007 by the Oxford choir Sospiri for their CD of Christmas music Videte Miraculum. All The Ends Of The Earth is a choral motet written for a Europe-wide radio broadcast on Millennium Day 1st January 2000. It is based on Perotin's organum Viderunt Omnes. Scored for S.A.T.B. chorus percussionand harp.

In a 2010 interview Billy Joel was asked which song is his best work that is least appreciated to which he started playing And So It Goes. As part of the King’s Singers Choral Series this ballad is arranged for SATB (Soprano Alt Tenor Bass) a cappella with Piano accompaniment included for rehearsals only. The harmonious hymn-like sound makes And So It Goes perfect for a variety of occasions. Performance time is ca. 3 minutes. The King’s Singers is a Grammy Award-winning British male sextet founded in 1968 at King’s College Cambridge. The group has always consisted of six singers in total with their membership constantly changing. Over the decades the ensemble has reached an ever-widening international audience and popularity today appearing in around 125 concerts each year mostly in Europe the US and the Far East.

O Holy Night and Silent Night both originated in 19th century Europe while Have Yourself A Merry Little Christmas was introduced by Judy Garland in a 1944 Hollywood musical. Silver Bells was a 1950 Livingston-Evans pop hit but surely the most famous of them all is Irving Berlin’s White Christmas the 1940 song for which its composer had high hopes the moment he completed it. Conceived as a nostalgic number White Christmas was a slow starter but went on to become a huge success and formany the ultimate Christmas song. These arrangements lend themselves to being performed separately or in seamless succession for a Classic Christmas recital audiences will love.

Fantasy on the canon Freu' dich des Lebens. Par SPARKE PHILIP. Partitions pour Choeur à quatre voix (SATB) - 25 ex. L’année 2008 marque le 400e anniversaire de la fondation de la ville de Québec (1608-2008) au Canada. Pour célébrer cet événement, la Musique des Voltigeurs de Québec, une unité d’infanterie de la force terrestre des Forces canadiennes, a fait appel au compositeur Philip Sparke pour l’écriture de deux oeuvres de concert (disponibles sur un compact disc édité spécialement pour cette occasion). Philip Sparke a composé Sounds of the Saint Lawrence (Échos du Saint-Laurent), une suite de chants traditionnels québécois, et cette fantaisie libre sur le canon Freu’ dich des Lebens de Ludwig van Beethoven. L’histoire de ce canon est absolument fascinante. En 1822, Théodore Frédéric Molt, un professeur, auteur, pianiste et organiste allemand - ancien soldat dans l'armée napoléonienne ayant combattu à Waterloo - arrive à Québec. En 1825, il retourne en Europe afin de parfaire sa formation. Au cours de son séjour, il rend visite à Beethoven. Quelques jours plus tard, il fait parvenir une lettre au compositeur sourd en incluant une feuille blanche sur laquelle il lui demande d'écrire « du fond de son grand coeur » un souvenir « qui restera pour moi, à une distance qu'il me faudra presque 3000 heures pour parcourir, un document éternellement précieux. »Beethoven accepte et, le 16 décembre 1825 (jour de ses cinquante-cinq ans), il présente à Théodore Molt le canon Freu’ dich des Lebens Le manuscrit est actuellement conservé dans une collection canadienne. Beethoven’s Greeting (“La signature de Beethoven”) débute avec une introduction lente basée sur le canon. S’ensuit un Vivo qui sera repris ultérieurement sous la forme d’un déchant à la mélodie du canon. Haydn composed 'Mass in Time of War' recognizing Europe's collective concern over the ambitious youthful and at the time successful Napoleon. As he was was working on it the Austrians were fighting to keep the French from their homeland. Some writers have suggested that the baleful timpani part in the Agnus Dei reflects Haydn's reaction to the escalating military conflict; these timpani passages inspired the work's nickname 'Paukenmesse' (Timpani Mass). The work is for a Quartet of Solo Voices SATB chorus and Orchestra. This version is edited by Michael R. Miller and includes a piano accompaniment.
