Full Score-John Rutter's Magnificat is a joyous celebration of the Virgin Mary inspired by feast-day festivities in countries such as Spain Mexico and Puerto Rico. Following the example set by Bach the Magnificat text is extended incorporating the fifteenth-century English poem 'Of a Rose' the prayers 'Sancta Maria' and the 'Sanctus' (set to the Gregorian chant of the Missa cum jubilo). The full scores for orchestra or chamber ensemble are now available on sale for the first time in handsome cloth-bound editions and the newly set orchestral parts are available on hire.

Berlioz?s discovery of Shakespeare in 1827 had been overwhelming not only for the dramatic force of the poetry and drama but also because the leading actress of the company Harriet Smithson immediately won his heart. She later became his wife.He began to think seriously about composing some kind of musical ?Romeo and Juliet? but it was not realised until 1839. The huge forces marshalled for the occasion delighted the audience, who demanded no fewer than eight encores and loudly acclaimed the composer despite an injunction to observe the solemnity of the occasion by refraining from applause. Elijah has been an essential repertoire work for choral societies ever since. Lieder der Vergänglichkeit for three soloists (SMezBar), mixed choir and orchestra. Par PENDERECKI KRZYSZTOF. The form of this work is not so much based on the classical symphony, but is closer to a song cycle structure which has now grown to include 13 movements for choir and orchestra. The Romantic characteristics and form of the 8th Symphony are both reminiscent of Gustav Mahler’s choral symphonic works and his Lied von der Erde. Krzysztof Penderecki here extends and augments his expressive musical material, for example through cluster techniques and glissandi, possibilities which he has been systematically exploring since the 1950s.
