Although also a violinist active in the Viennese music scene he was most well-known as a lutenist. He composed a total of seven lute concertos during his lifetime. This Concerto in D Major is in three movements: Allegro Andante molto and Tempo di Minuetto. In this edition Victor Van Puijenbroeck has created a piano reduction of the orchestral score and also has adapted the lute part to be played on guitar. Grieg composed this Concerto for Piano and Orchestra in 1868 for himself to play however Edmund Neupert played the first public performance in Copenhagen on April 3 1869. The music is rife with Scandinavian influences including traits of Schumann and Mendelssohn and Norwegian folk dance elements and rhythms. It is a dramatic and dynamic work that is never flat using constant development flourishes and crescendo from the first movement to the last. The nine symphonies composed by Anton Bruckner (1824-1896) constitute landmarks of the Austro-Germanic symphonic tradition. Based on the authoritative autograph score this complete restoration of the composer's original design offers musicians and music lovers the chance to study the music as originally conceived.
