This edition is more user-friendly than the others currently available. The accompanying CD provides piano accompaniments as well as samples from recordings of the Neruda Haydn and Hummell concerti with kind permission of Hyperion Records and Crispian Steele-Perkins.J.G.B. Neruda (1711-1780) was typical of 18th century musicians travelling and studying in various parts of Eastern Europe and finally settling in Dresden (1750-1780) in the Electoral (chapel) orchestra where he was salaried as a violinist and occasional composer. This concerto was originally composed for a Corno da Caccia (hunting horn) presumed to be something of a hybrid between the natural hornand natural trumpet but has been borrowed by modern trumpet players and is now firmly fixed in the Classical trumpet repertoire.This edition is intended to be more user-friendly than the others currently available: there is a much easier (and dare I say more stylistic) piano accompaniment - any doubling of the solo part has been removed voicing simplified and my premise has been to imagine what it might have been before it was orchestrated rather than trying to cram in every last piece of orchestral detail. Suggested cuts have been indicated which give a short introduction to each movement perfect for auditions recitals or exams. However the bar numbers still tally with the longer original versions which are included should they be required.The dynamics and articulation which I have added incorporate the weight of opinion in current editions and recordings offering more guidance than 'scholarly' editions without being over-prescriptive. There is an appendix with suggested interpretation of trills. Listening to as many different recordings as possible is the best way to assimilate good trills. Trumpet parts in both B flat and E flat simplified piano part and a free CD including piano backing tracks and orchestral performance extracts.Johann Nepomuk Hummel (1778-1837) composed this concerto in 1803 for the keyed trumpet which had been developed by Anton Weidinger (1767-1852). Weidinger gave its first performance on New Year's Day 1804. Originally composed in the key of E it is more commonly played in Eb. The keyed trumpet was the first type of trumpet which could play chromatically but the invention was not a huge success: it suffered from a poor quality of sound. Klavierauszug mit Solostimme-Hummel's Trumpet concerto is certainly one of the more well known and popular works in the trumpet repertoire. This is a beautifully lyrical piece with many memorable melodies and sonorous harmonies.This version has been arranged for B flat Trumpet with Piano Accompaniment and has been edited by Norman Richardson. Where many piano (or orchestral) reductions can literally be a reduced orchestral score rather than a properly devised accompaniment this piano part has been carefully voiced so as to be performable. This piece will provide an enjoyable challenge for both the trumpeter and pianist alike.The solo trumpet part is also included on aseparate insert.

Johann Stamitz is considered the founding father of the Mannheim school of musical innovation. His two sons Carl and Anton were important members of the group as well. He was instrumental in setting the four-movement symphonic structure and the sonata form.Concertmaster of the Orchestra in Mannheim Stamitz wrote more than fifty symphonies and many other works. This work has been credited to Stamitz though he wrote little for the Trumpet and the title page of the work bears no signature. Some scholars believe the work to be that of Johann Georg Holzbogen. It has been recorded however as Concerto in D for Trumpet and the missing parts have been reconstructed bycomposer and arranger Alan Boustead.The style of the work falls in the time between our later delineations of the Baroque and Classical eras and the writing is typical energetic with quite an exciting solo part for the Trumpet.

Elgar Howarth (b. 1935) is one of the foremost Brass musicians in Britain today; highlyregarded as a performer conductor composer and teacher. He played the Trumpet at the Royal Opera House andthe Royal Philharmonic Orchestra while also conducting and composing for several Brass Bands most notably the Grimethorpe Colliery Band. The Prince of Denmark's March-Trumpet Aire-For a long time the 'Trumpet Voluntary' had been considered to be a composition by Henry Purcell but it was Jeremiah Clarke who actually composed this highlight of trumpet literature. Also known as The Prince of Denmark March it was originally written for keyboard instruments. Clarke (1674-1707) organist and choir master at the London Saint Paul's Cathedral composed a lot of works but this wonderful gem is the only one that has remained alive - and is often played at weddings in England still today.
